Not temporarily couch surfing homeless. Actual panhandling, tent dwelling homeless. Let's hear about it

Yeah.

For a few months. Kinda by choice when I was strung out on heroin and coke.

That was 3 years ago.

I am fortunate to have supportive family and friends who would not allow that to happen

When I live in Louisville, I worked 2 jobs and a lot of hours to pay off my student loans. I wrote my last check for $5000 to finish off my student loans completely in July 2018. 2 weeks later I got laid off with no severance or anything, and since I had not been saving money in favor of paying off my loans, I didn't have much money in the bank. I had family and friends work with me to give me a place to stay and interview and all that until I got back on my feet. Even though it still sucked because I felt like a burden, but it beat living out of a car.

I could see other people in my situation that didn't have the family/friend support to get them through those times.

I learned my lesson, though. When I got my next job the first thing I did was save 6 months of expenses. I ended up getting laid off again back in December, and fortunately had many months of savings in the bank to go along with my severence package. So no need to rely on friends and family this time.

It's the trashy post trifecta. This is the third in a row I have come across this evening.

Once upon a time you dressed so fine
Threw the bums a dime in your prime, didn't you?
People call, say, "Beware doll you're bound to fall"
You thought they were all kiddin' you

You used to laugh about everybody that was hangin' out
Now you don't talk so loud
Now you don't seem so proud
About having to be scrounging your next meal

How does it feel?
How does it feel?
To be without a home
Like a complete unknown
Like a rolling stone

You've gone to the finest school, all right Miss Lonely
But you know you only used to get juiced in it
Nobody's ever taught you how to live out on the street
And now you're gonna have to get used to it

You said you'd never compromise with the mystery tramp
But now you realize, he's not selling any alibis
As you stare into the vacuum of his eyes
And say, "Do you want to make a deal?"

How does it feel?
How does it feel?
To be on your own
With no direction home
A complete unknown
Like a rolling stone

For about 2 months in East Honolulu. Looking back it's crazy that it still took me 5 years after such a thing to get sober.

My wife's nephew is a drug addict that's homeless off and on. I figured that was a pretty tight knit community.

Ehhh maybe. But it's a very large community. I didn't grow up in Bham, but spent some time down there and still have good friends in the area.
