2023 look a head

Louisiana produces Talent! I don’t know the exact numbers but per capita LA is up there in producing college players, NFL players, and overall highly rated recruits.
We all know how great the 2022 class looks by now. And it is very impressive. The best part about 2022 is that it has players at positions of needs and players that don’t normally come from LA. LA always has skill players on both sides the ball and normally some DL. 2022 has OL and QBs. QBs being the biggest surprised for LA the over all talent over the next few years at QB from LA is impressive to say the least. It isn’t over yet. 2023 is on a fire start.
Currently 4 5* players according to 247 sports.
Some have some ties to LSU.
No big time OL but still players that will be at a position of need later on when this class would come in.
I’ll list the players currently players ranked in LA. I’d expect things to change a good bit by the time this actually matters. A lot of kids develop between junior and senior year. But the biggest thing is that the Covid restrictions meant that a lot of evaluations didn’t happen. So expect now that kids are able to go to camps and do more 7v7 for there to be shake ups in rankings as kids get more tape.
LA 2023 247 Composite rankings. It changes a good bit just using the 247 rankings. You can see for yourself in the links below. Just know we still got talent in the state!
1. Arch Manning, 5* QB
2. Shelton Sampson Jr., 5* WR
3. Derek Williams, 5* S
4. Jaiden Ausberry, 5* OLB
5. Tackett Curtis, 4* OLB
6. Trey Holly, 4* RB
7. Eli Holstein, 4* QB
8. Omarion Miller, 4* WR
9. Rickie Collins, 3* QB
I’d expect us to land most of e kids and 1 of the QBs. 6-7 of the 9 listed. That’s still a solid core of LA kids. And I’d expect a few more to get ratings as the year goes.
Geaux247 podcast. They did a short look through of a few of the guys on the list.

Coach O will have to continue to lock down the state.

No doubt. I’ll update the links. I just used the composite. I’ll add the 247 only rankings.

There’s also a DL in south LA that’s supposed to be really good. Name escapes me.
Edit: Jamiean Buxton. Zalance Heard will be good too.

Kylin Jackson 247
I expect Kylin Jackson to rise some more with two seasons to play. He is on Holstein's team so he will get a lot of scout looks. Already inside the Top 200 on 247.

Power-5 Starter
His Hudl video is a really good view and remind yourself this kid is a sophomore in that film...

Good height and looks long on tape. Lean, athletic build that will foster more bulk in college. Instinctive center field-type at the back end who covers chunks of territory in the passing game. Awareness is obvious, as is functional athleticism. Has a nose for the ball. Redirects fairly well relative to frame length, allowing him to drive on throws. Frame should aid in catch-point disruption. Above average ball skills. Willing tackler who will crash the box vs. the run when needed. Functional athlete on the field but athletic profile lacks verified context in the form of track or combine testing. Similarly, size has not been verified yet. Free safety play style with a frame that could lead to dropping down as a hybrid back-seven player in certain situations. Projects to high-major level with plenty of long-term upside.

Jackson seems like a kid that could grow into a LB in college. He looks great in the box and as a tackler in space.

I think kylin jackson is going be really good when all is said and done.
Hope he stays at safety.

I am thinking that too. At only a soph he could easily outgrow DB/S. I am also impressed with his ability to run down plays across the formation and in the box. Will be fun to see what he does the next two seasons.

While I don't know much about these athletes, this group is not the best make up for us to sign such a high percentage. I can easily see us signing 5 or less. Good chance we won't sign any of the qbs, Ausberry situation is fluid, and I could easily see not signing at least one of the remaining prospects.

Zalance Heard from Neville about to blow up. Will be a 4 star soon.

That's what caught my eye. He played a bunch of free safety where he was roaming the entire secondary.
At this point, i think he stays at safety.

We need to grayshirt an OL to count towards the 2023 class.

The descriptions have become a little overblown - “Verified context” “Functional athleticism” “catch-point disruption”

It actually makes perfect sense tbh. Dude is thick boned and swole, he’s going to jarr the ball loose a decent amount by default.
Dude doesn’t have a FAT 40yd or 100m so who knows how fast he is.
