It's fascinating to me how many people are drawn to these megachurches. Time after time, example after example, they are exposed as self-dealing money making frauds and/or cesspools of emotional and/or sexual abuse and assault, yet the faithful continue to flock and be fleeced.

Megachurches are money makers that prey on hearts and emotions. I remember when I was a kid my grandparent's sending money to PTL (Jim & Tammy Baker) they literally tithed 10% to PTL every week of their lives + another 10% to our local church.

For whatever reason it never crossed their minds to plan and save for retirement or their old age senior living arrangements. All ended up falling on their kids to pay for their care when they became elderly.

When PTL crashed and Jim Baker ended up in prison my grandmother blew it off and quoted scripture of Christians being persecuted for thousands of years. In her mind the Baker's were falsely accused and they were persecuted. WTH kind of brainwashing is that?

Agreed. It shows that all people really are in search of a higher power and want to know their meaning in life. You have to be wise when engaging in anything as it relates to a spiritual life. Many people fall prey sensationalism and emotionalism which is what the charismatic movement is all about. Everything is based on "an experience".

If you haven't watched it yet, I would highly recommend that documentary "American Gospel" (used to be on Netflix, I know it's on youtube) which gives a good core and deep look into the prosperity gospel movement. Bethany Church is very much right in the middle of that movement. Hillsong United, Bethel Church in California, and Elevation Church in North Carolina all at the heart of the charismatic/prosperty gospel movement. They are all the same. They are all into signs and wonders, concert style worship "experience" that really appeals to the younger generations that are being born.
