Fairhope is a plastic suckhole now. Straight full of fat rude Yankee retired asshats. It is not my Alabama.

Funny that I should see this in a post. My wife and I are in our 50's and drove along the bay in Fairhope yesterday. We were actually looking for an area to relocate to for retirement. Fairhope is gorgeous, but $600K will pretty much only buy you a vacant lot. I noticed from real estate websites that you can buy the same view from the other side of the bay for about $80K. I haven't driven around over there, so am not sure what the drawback is other than not being Fairhope.
We also drove around Perdido Key side of Florida, which would save on the 5% state income tax in Alabama, but it just doesn't have the vibe and beauty of the Fairhope / Daphne area. The traffic along the key was pretty awful too, even before the summer season officially in gear.
