Portland has two professional teams: Blazers and Timbers. Both franchises have had elite fan support their entire history. The Trailblazers have sold out every single game numerous seasons and the MLS Timbers are following suit.

Blazers play during the shitty weather months.

Commies love soccer.

Commies aren't the outdoors type but they won't go to a baseball game.

Vegas would be terrible unless they somehow played their games in the Raiders stadium but I think it’s too small. Nobody out here really cares about baseball and they aren’t gonna sit in 110 degree heat to watch teams they don’t care about.

think Charlotte could.

Maybe

But my question is there is a serious ownership group here?

Tepper wanted that MLS team bad and did what he had to do to jump the line over groups that had been trying much longer to get a team. But I haven’t seen that he wants a baseball team.

He’s not only the rich guy in town but he almost certainly has to be at least a sizable minority owner for Charlotte to have a chance

I just cant see Vegas. On one hand it makes complete sense and it sounds great, but on the other hand, it doesn't. Just 5 years ago, Las Vegas had zero professional sports franchises. Now we want to give them 3 franchises??? To me, that just seems like too much too fast for a city, while big, isn't really BIG in population. It feels like, if MLB comes to Las Vegas, one of the franchises is going to suffer with support. There just isn't enough corporate money to go around IMO. But who knows?

Vegas is going to get enough tourist support to support a franchise. I really feel like Nashville could be in a similar spot.

You know, once we get past COVID shite.

Can't wait to see it. Another city/state will be lured into building the stadium, partly based on promises that All-Star game will be hosted there in next X years generating incremental economic revenue.

God forbid local politicians do something that violates Manfred's conscience, though. Because then that All Star game gets pulled out and with it goes part of the financial justification for the stadium you just subsidized for the assholes.

How so? Please explain. Giving a city with a smaller population than many cities currently without more than 1 pro sport is a "bad take"?? Vegas is a transient city. Its easier to support a franchise with 41 home games like the Golden Knights, and even easier to support a franchise with 8 home games like the Raiders. We will see if Vegas can support a franchise for 81 home games a year. All i'm saying, is that there has to be some skepticism at some point. Flooding a market, just because its Vegas is truly the "bad take"

Why? You havent made one valid point
The teams they have now are sold out

Vegas is on fire and plenty of ppl will fly in and enjoy a day or night game in Vegas

To think otherwise means you havent been there

How much of a consideration is geography? Charlotte in the Western Division isn't going to work in baseball. Too many Pacific Time Zone games.

Unless you go back to four divisions. The Braves and Reds were in the NL West. Then the wild card game can be 3 at 2 with the winner playing 1 in the division series. But do they want to redo the division and playoff structure just so the A's can relocate to Montral/Charlotte/Nashville?

Vegas would have multiple major teams decades ago if not for the gambling stigma.

The current metro population is 2.3 million and we're growing at a rate of between 2.8% - 3.2% annually. From a financial standpoint, your argument has merit, as this area was one of the worst hit economically by COVID and its political fallout. It's gonna take a while to pull out of that.

It would work if it came to pass, we just may be like San Diego where we have a huge number of opposing fans at every game. The huge difference being that SD is a far nicer climate in the summer.

They can also just put them in the central and move KC west, or in the east and move Toronto central and KC west.

Bay Area is such a large and populated area. Would it make sense to move the team to San Jose or another suburb of San Francisco?

.
West side of the bay = Giants fans
East side = A's.
No one would watch them if they moved to the San Jose area.
They already have the Giants minor league team there anyway.

Relocations usually have odd cities that pop up. Wouldn’t be shocked to hear Vancouver

I just don't understand the fascination with putting teams in Canada? By and large, they don't give two shits about the sport of baseball. This would be like putting a hockey team in Mexico City. Canadians aren't die hard baseball fans. IF MLB wanted to go foreign, they should go to Latin America.
