Metal and glass on Tiger Stadium's turf...

Is it possible that there is a bunch of metal and glass that found its way to the field, and that has presented a hazard to anyone that might play on it?
This might sound silly but do they need to use some type of metal detector and vacuum system to clear the field of debris?

It doesn't sound silly at all. I was wondering the same thing. Metal should be easy to find, but glass could be a problem.

Hah that does sound kind of silly now that I picture a bunch of people with metal detectors and vacuums walking around Tiger Stadium.
But I can see why they would be concerned about that.
How could have glass gotten on to the field? The athletic department windows?

we could always use the trusty TD.com search engine to "look for glass on the field"

They will use a machine similar to the ones you see in the french quarter to suck up any threat!
The grounds crew at Tiger Stadium are badass!

I would guess a strong magnet on wheels (similar to the ones used to clean machine shop floors) would take care of the metal. Not sure about the glass??

East facing Club seating took a beating

I imagine they have some sort of field lawn care broom that picks up most of the debree. Also, cutting the grass with bag would help.

only if your intent was not to find something that you knew existed

Did not know that. I still can't believe how bad of a beating the whole campus took.

Not sure, but wouldn't the glass have blown INTO the suites instead of out towards the field?

You must never have seen the debris after a hurricane. In short, glass will be both in the suites and outside as well.

Chicken, I was in ROTC at LSU in the late 80s. We had a deal where they paid us (and some other student organizations, Fraternities, mainly) to do the heavy, first pass cleanup of various sections of Tiger Stadium seating. However, they never wanted, nor asked for any help for the field. Sometimes weather conditions make the playing surface "less than optimal", but I assure you that if the head groundskeeper (or whatever his position) says the field is okay for play, you can use the Tiger Stadium turf for a maternity ward. They are that anal-retentive. They can't make any guarantees about what we, as a collective fan base, *cough, Oranges, cough, cups, batteries, etc. cough*, throw onto to the field during a game, but at kickoff, it's top notch.

They sure haven't been that anal retentive the last few years. If they were, the field wouldn't have had to be re-sodded this year after having just re-doing it a few short years ago. There's NO reason for a properly maintained turf to come down with "fungus" like the turf in Tiger Stadiun did last year. That's all at the feet of the head groundskeeper and the field crew. I hope LSU has corrected the problem and wont have anymore Turf problems.....
