Im really interested in why it didn’t hit them hard way sooner. They seem like a perfect situation for spread.

They were hit somewhat hard last year, but it didn’t get worse because of lockdown regulations. Somewhere around. 50% of people they tested late last fall were positive for antibodies, so scientists assumed the virus had run its course through the country. Restrictions were lifted, and now they’re getting hammered. Seems the biggest culprit is the current wave is mainly being caused by a highly contagious variant. There’s also thought that the 50% positivity for antibodies was grossly overestimated.

And yeah, their government didn’t secure vaccines early enough.

I feel the same way about the slums of Brazil. It's a ton of people living in unsanitary conditions right on top of each other.

I read that there was a religious gathering in early April that saw 9 million people get together.

I also read about large political rallies ahead of elections.

And we already know about the poor sanitation in India.

Recipe for disaster.
