Would Stingley Sr be a good hire if Raymond or Joseph were to ever leave?

Seems well connected to LSU program even with a lot of the recruits.
Knows DB and how to coach it.
I would love him on staff in some capacity.

Just because he gets his arse kissed on the radio every week doesn’t mean he’d be a good hire.

Couldn’t have said it better myself. We need to break out of the “one of us” coaching hires, aside from someone like Mulkey who has the skins on the wall to prove themselves.

So we shouldn't have hired O? You do not get to use the benefit of hindsight of 2019 when answering this question.

Not even knocking O with this question, as he has shown that an otherwise underwhelming candidate can thrive in the right situation. He could never produce what he's produced here somewhere else. Even if he loses the rest of the game she coaches here and is fired at the end of this year, it was worth it for 2019.

I wasn’t really crazy about the hire when it was made, but I understand why they made it. They struck out on their big targets and wanted someone safe and frankly probably figured if he was no good they could can him in a couple years and try again.

Using “one of us hiring” as your philosophy isn’t a good idea. The real test will be the next time we hire a baseball coach, softball coach, etc.

Well Mickey Joseph coaches wide receivers so replacing him with a 3rd DB coach probably isn’t the best idea

Derek Stingley was the best LSU DB from the moment he stepped on the field and practiced with the team before the 2019 Fiesta Bowl. I don't know who gets credit for it but whoever had him SEC ready from day 1 certainly deserves consideration.

Yeah, and maybe Dick Vitale if Wade leaves.

Does Sting Sr. have any coaching experience besides the DB camp type stuff he seems to do? Raymond started out as a GA/ strength staff guy, maybe Sting could start there.
