Holy hell the government spent this much money and time investing college admission scandals? Who cares? Money has always bought you shite like this. Wealthy people have been donating to colleges for admissions for as long as colleges existed.

Well multiple federal laws were willfully broken, so it was probably justified.

True. So, why didn't Aunt Becky cut a check for a new botany lab instead of bribing an official and completely fabricating a fictional existence for her idiot daughters who "had no clue any of that was going on"?

Back door, side door, whatever. They completely fabricated the past 4 years of their child's life. Nothing they put on their admissions and/or scholarship paperwork was true. Hell, they went out to a costume store and bought rowing uniforms and found some boats to take pictures in. Mind you, the brilliant daughter thought that was entirely normal and never thought to question why she was now being called a rower....she didn't know anything was up. Yeah, I bet.
When all was said and done, it would have just been cheaper to pay your kids way. Nevermind that neither of those kids gave a single runny shite about getting an education, and were just there "for the party". That was all for the "parents" and keeping up appearances.

The only difference between the back door and side door is whose pocket the money ended up in

True that.

I don't disagree with you, on any of it.

What parts of that are illegal and worthy of a several months long fbi investigation? And most importantly, who was harmed by these actions?

The kids werent smart enough to get into those schools on their own merits. That was the entire point. They opted to pay a couple hundred thousand dollars to acquire special treatment for their children instead of a couple million in the traditional and apparently acceptable bribery methods that have been around for decades

There are lots of things rich people do for the sake of keeping up appearances that their kids don’t give a shite about, and neither the fbi nor the general public ever cares about those beyond maybe an eyeroll. Why is this different?

The parents were famous, that's the difference.

There were over 50 people implicated in this. Everyone knows about aunt Becky and maybe a few others, but the vast majority of those involved were just very wealthy people that no one had ever ever heard of.

The end result is the same. They both end up with a kid getting into college that they wouldn’t get into based off of merit. The difference is one parent pays $20 million and the other pays $500,000.
