Why administer Narcan? If they want to inject, smoke, or whatever they do just let them die when they OD.
Why should I care?

I kind of agree because so few successfully rehabilitate to become productive members of society.
Addicts are a burden on their families, a drain on society, and a criminal to their neighbors.

Because laws governing medical providers in this country are screwed up beyond repair.
ETA: There are legitimate ODs that are accidental or the patient rehabilitates. It’s not all for naught.

My dad was an addict for years, pretty much anything he could get his hands on he’d take. He’s been clean 7 years and we’ve rebuilt our relationship stronger than ever; By your logic, does he still not deserve to live? Should I have just let him die and never meet his grandkids?

You mean besides the legal obligation to help them?

I am a Drug Offender Probation Officer. I personally think it should not be administered by law enforcement or EMS. Addicts count of being rescued which further enables their opioid abuse.

People who haven't had it hit close to home don't understand this logic.

No, you should have done whatever you did. A police officer shouldnt have to carry/administer narcan though.
