Our first pediatrician, when we lived in Katy, had just gone out into her own practice, it was just doc, a nurse, and an office person. Never had any waits at all.

When we moved to NOLA, we ended up with a pediatrician who was very popular, and it was hard to get appointments, but when we did, they were always on time. He just recently retired.

Many docs don't pay attention to a clock, especially older ones. They talk to the patient/parents until everything is understood. If the appointment scheduler doesn't understand that, you can fall behind quickly.

May also be spending extra time with children that aren't healthy like yours

I've gotten rid of several doctors over the past year because of this bullshite. Wish I could send them a bill for my time.

I’ve never had to wait more than a few minutes for my kid’s appointments. They make us check in on the phone & wait in the car instead of the waiting room because of COVID, but I’m fine with that. They have evening & weekend appointments, too, which I can’t say for other specialties.

Ask your Facebook contacts for recommendations.

It has been hit or miss for us, the one thing I have noticed is that the doctor never rushes us out once we see her. She is always willing to spend as much time as necessary explaining whatever the issue is, which I appreciate.

I suspect a lot of it is the volume of patients they need to see since insurance reimbursement rates for primary pediatric care are very low, and if they accept Medicaid... its like they are offering a free service.

I didn't read all the replies but you have a sick side and a well side. Same doctors. They have to fit in all the sick kids between those appointments.

FWIW, 99% of healthcare is a scam anyway. The idea that you have to go visit a clinic to get the same dose of amoxicillin is a racket. Sure there are the other 1% of times when something is actually wrong. But most of the time if we could get amoxicillin otc, we wouldn't have near the backup in doctor's offices.

You could also put Z-packs and steroids on that list too. Of course some meth head would be killing their kids, but that's par for the course and the reason we can't have nice things.

Today I learned that doctors can't keep the lights on, although my insurance goes up (along with everyone else's) every year and there are huge clinics on every other corner of South baton rouge.
