I like Will Clark as a player but he's a grade A jerk as a person.

Clark is a lot like Alex Bregman. I have met both, and I think they share some of the same personality traits. Alex, I would say, is a touch more friendly with strangers than Clark tends to be.

Both are fiery competitive. Both don't suffer fools gladly, certainly not when it comes to baseball.

The license plate poster claimed that Clark missed the limelight, and I would dispute that. Clark walked away from a 15-year MLB career in 2000 at the age of 36. He batted. 319 with a .964 OPS. He went on to bat .412 for the Cardinals in the NLCS and suddenly announced he was retiring -- still a force in his team's lineup.

He has a son with learning disabilities, and his devotion to the son has been extraordinary. I think ESPN even did a piece on their relationship. He didn't retire from the limelight, rather he left baseball to spend time with his family.

He has said more than once that he would have come to LSU "if they had a coach." He chose Ron Polk over Jack Lamabe. Can't blame him.

He was fun to watch, just as now Bregman is. That's what matters most.

More professional athletes are similar to these two than to majority of the people on this board. The confidence it takes to be that great at what you do comes off arrogant and a-holish to the average person because it usually is.
