DOOM Fans, where do you want the series to go now?

Now that we have done all the Ripping and Tearing, what does the Slayer do now?
Since being pleasantly surprised with DOOM 2016, I've been obsessed with this game. DOOM Eternal added even short but interesting lore to a world that is fun to play.
The journey is now for the Slayer seems to be at an end. Do we explore the wars between the worlds through time, past and even weird future battle? Do we journey as a Night Sentinal in the army?
Polygon (I hate Polygon) - Where does Doom go next?

While The Ancient Gods — Part Two may bring closure to the story that began in 2016’s Doom, it’s going to leave behind a universe in which many things are possible, as long as the designers don’t lose track of the reasons people play Doom games: the over-the-top violence and gore, the winking self-seriousness mixed with a little camp, and the complete faith that the best defense is a good offense. Martin sounded almost drunk with possibilities during our call.
“It’s as if Sam Raimi was given a Transformers budget to go make a sequel to The Evil Dead — that’s what Doom feels like, to us,” said Martin.

DOOM 1 & 2 remaster, for the hell of it.
Literally.

Rip and tear until it is done.

DOOM 64, IMO, is the ultimate "classic" DOOM.
Would love to see something done with this title.

Just started The Ancient Gods part 1 so I don't know how this story ends yet but I love the Doom lore of 2016 and Eternal. I hope they stay within that universe. I wish there could be some of the fear and terror of Doom 3 mixed in with the balls out action of the newer ones. Since the Doom slayer isn't afraid of anything, maybe add a separate protagonist.

As much as I loved the difficulty and combat loop of Eternal, I really wish they'd veer back towards 2016 in terms of lore and world.
all of the cool little things from 2016 got blown up to comedic proportion in Eternal - not one ounce of subtlety or finesse. abandoned the gritty scifi world with tongue-in-cheek elements for full-on high fantasy shite. ruined all the great characters like Samuel Hayden. Can't believe they left that epic cliffhanger in 2016 and didn't even address it in Eternal lol
2016-style story and setting with Eternal's combat and gameplay would be perfect

It gets a little better, the lore in this game is great. Awesome world-building you can nerd out on, and then play a super intense game.
Just remember, TAG1 is much more difficult than TAG2. It is also much needed since TAG1 is too stressful. I'm yet to finish on Nightmare but haven't practiced loops all that much.
It felt like it was calmed down in TAG2. It was just enjoyable with smaller but new specialized enemy encounters, actually fun platforming and a surprising not soo difficult final boss battle. Personally I thought the Khan Maykr.
I did enjoy the sci-fi realism to DOOM 2016. As mentioned by Hugo on JRE, they went a little more "80s Saturday Morning Cartoon" with Erternal.
Oh, and by the way, how fckking awesome is Hugo Martin?

quote:for me its 1 and 2. When 2 was released on Playstation 1, it became one of the games I've probably put the most time into. I had a rotation of that, twisted metal 2, mortal kombat 3 and resident evil

The deathmatch option was what people wanted more of too..hence call of duty's success

I grew up with just a PC at my Grandparents' house, so DOOM II was one of my go-to titles for gaming after school and during summers.
If you love some DOOM II, DOOM 64 is a perfected version.

I downloaded it on my Xbox one, I've been playing the X so much I've just never gotten to it.
I had a 64, but never invested in it. I forgot I downloaded it and look forward to playing around with it

Every time I'm not on my phone and on a proper browser, your avatar for whatever reason, makes me think of an old Tek Syndicate FreeNAS build video with the build named as "NASferatu".
RIP Tek Syndicate, glad Wendell found success away from that succubus of a GF stealing their Patreon monies.

Your troll is greatly appreciated. I remember using DOOM 3 as just a "benchmark" tool for years without ever really playing the game.
I had soo much hate for it going into the "Resident Evil" direction that refused to give it a try. However, after completing DOOM 2016 I purchased the Remastered edition that came out a few years earlier. Well, I have to say, the game isn't DOOM for me, but its not a terrible game. Never finished it but it didn't deserve all the shtt it received.

I would guess they would either do more things with this doom universe that they have established or try a new IP entirely. I think they got too far up their own arse with the lore, but if this is the path we must go down, they can probably mine a few good plot lines from it. The slayers time as urdaks enforcer, for example.
I wouldn’t mind Hugo and his team reviving quake. The quake 1 setting with gothic horror and slipgates could make for a good palate cleanser before they revisit the slayer-verse.

Doom 3 was just released on PSVR.
I've never played it, but its amazing in VR (on the PS5), it's a much darker, slower, moody Doom, I liked the change in pace.
The VR with the AIM controller is the definitive DOOM3 experience if I had to guess.

It’s doom, and if you would’ve played it when it came out you’d have a different opinion. They nailed the horror aspect of it.

An easy answer was hinted at in the latest Wolfenstein game.
At one point, BJ Blascowitz uses the Da'at Yichud artifact and sees alternate dimensions, including ours (when the Allies won WWII) and the Doom Dimension.
Where do we want the series to go? Wolfenstein/Doom CROSSOVER!

Wut,?
He's right. I played it when it came out in 2005...on my PC...with the lights out...and I would have to stop from time to time because I was in a cold sweat.

It is Resident Evil than DOOM. But, okay.
