Went to a grossly understaffed restaurant today, can’t find workers

I went to a national casual dining chain for dinner. The place was pretty much full and they had three waitresses for the whole restaurant. Our waitress had about 8 tables and was doing an admirable job. Food was taking a long time as it was obvious they didn’t have enough kitchen staff.
So I went to pay and the manager thanks us for our patience and says nobody wants to work anymore, they’re getting paid too much to stay home.
There are now hiring signs everywhere.
Why are we encouraging this? Businesses that are not destroyed by Covid can’t satisfy customer demand because there are no workers. Those that are working are getting discouraged and are quitting left and right.
Thanks Democrats.

As I've seen posted several times, "if a business can't pay enough to get workers off unemployment, then they don't deserve to be in business."

Same way in many industries right now.

What a lazy arse mentality.

Our state pays $280/ week or the equivalent of about $6/hr.
What are other states paying for unemployment?

Signs of inflation are everywhere right now, and this is another. I hope people don’t have significant holdings in greenbacks.

Plus what the fed is kicking in .......... Food Stamps, Medical Care, a free phone. Sounds like I am doing it all wrong.
Automatic, additional payments of $300 per week until September 6, 2021 to everyone qualified for unemployment benefits

A few of my doctors complained about the same thing with some of their staff. I don’t understand these types. They will never amount to shite quitting jobs like this. I don’t think people understand how hard you actually have to work to be successful. These lazy assholes think the world owes them something for just being alive.

Arizona just went from $540/week max to $240/week max.
Neither figure includes the additional $300/week from the feds

Welfare wouldn't compete with what a waitress could earn at an understaffed restaurant. Sorry, not buying the manager's excuse.

That ain't it.

Not only that, but what a sour and inappropriate conversation to have with patrons. It’s a wonder people aren’t flocking to work for him.

Stimulus + regular UE + Medicaid/healthcare subsidies + housing vouchers + recent student loan forgiveness + etc etc etc definitely can compete with a waitress’ total comp in many parts of the country. That’s not hard to buy at all.
Powell and co. likely anticipated much of it. I tend to think they’re wildly under-estimating inflationary pressures at the moment, but they certainly knew some of this was coming.

The more people reliant on government subsidies the more power the government has over you. You don't vote out the cash cow.

Texas has reinstated its work-search requirement for several months, meaning you can’t just sit home and not work without looking for a job, and accepting a suitable offer.
But the sheer number of people riding the system makes an audit of those individual requirements less and less likely. You are still likely to get away with lying that you’re actively searching.

If there were waitresses out there that actually wanted to work that might be a good point.
To a large percentage of the populace just getting by is good enough. Actually busting arse is out of the question for them, no matter the financial benefit.

Fraudulent documentation? Using friends as work-search references?
