Overtime winners in the NCAA tourney are 8-19 in their next game over the last several years. Emotional exhaustion may be a thing.

your next round opponent is almost always tougher than your previous opponent, I'm not disagreeing with the premise but I don't think this stat is as indicative as it initially appears.

Its a huge factor in why Gonzaga lost. If Baylor/Gonzaga played the best of 7 I would give the edge to Gonzaga winning 4 of the 7. Both were incredible programs but Gonzaga's players didn't get to sleep until 4:00 AM after the UCLA game which gave them a very short turnaround.

Mark Few said it best years ago winning the tournament is based on skill, talent, IQ, luck, and even more luck.
