I may be in the market for a new truck between now and the next 6 months so I’m in no rush. But I was wondering which brand between Ford, Ram, and Chevy still give the steepest discounts. I’m familiar with the “piss up a rope” purchase strategy, and I subscribe to it.

But generally, I was used to purchasing the older model vehicle (2020 vehicle when 2021 comes out, 2021 when 2022 comes out) and I would get roughly $12K off MSRP. My question is, what does that look like now? What can a saavy purchaser legitimately expect to save off MSRP if purchasing the previous model year? Thanks!

Right now? Dealer holds the cards and you will either pay or GTFO.

If you can, wait. Or buy one if you don't mind paying.

Or cars as well, like Toyota and Lexus for example? What about brand new 2021 models, how much off MSRP?
Asking for a friend.

Good luck getting it. There's a chip shortage that is having a major effect on new car manufacturing. New car dealers are having to buy used cars to fill their lots. Rental car companies are having to do the same. It's causing used car prices to spike.

The world is moving to EVs. If you're purchasing a gas burner expect it to drop in value even more than normal because at some point they won't even sell them anymore and it will be considered old technology. That's not to say gas vehicles are going anywhere anytime soon, but they will definitely stop selling them at some point, probably sooner than you think and most vehicles will move to electric.

ETA: I can't wait until all vehicles are self-driving. Get in, crack a cold one, relax and watch the game or take a nap. Wake up at your destination. No more red lights, much less traffic congestion.

You can get 10-12k off a fully loaded 2021 GMC, 2022’s ( which are set to be out In Third quarter of 21)they are making big changes , Ford you will not have much room IF you can find what you want
Ram... I have no idea, I thought about it but just can’t go look at them

I am waiting till the 2022’s And hoping the supply issue has been fixed

But right now between the supply issues, all the free money (stimulus checks, PPP, EIDL, enhanced unemployment, etc) tax refunds, and people in general breathing a sigh of relief about COVID ... it is just not a buyers market

Ram offers pretty good discounts. Ford and GM playing hard ball. But if I’m buying a truck it’s Ford or Ram anyway, GM is overpriced and inferior and Chevy is just straight garbo

I don’t know if they have the best engines but Ford is reliable. Plus they look the best.

You're insane if you think you'll get any kind of deal on a new truck for at least a year, if not more. Production is hampered and stalled for many of them due to chip shortages.

It's a sellers market by far.

18-20 f150 in 5.0L is as close as perfect a truck as you can get. If I was getting a chevy I'd get the prior body style not the current Hoover edition Vacuum model. Dodge's have become much better in the past decade and don't look bad. Toyotas are great, especially Tacoma's but they're a little small. Tundras are great trucks they just look like a potato on wheels.

As for the electric truck nonsense, we may see hybrids in the next few years and possibly full electrics but they aren't gonna stop selling gas/diesel trucks. Even if they did, demand would be through the roof.

Supply shortage across the board. Wait a while before you buy. Maybe things will look different a year from now.
