Medical surveys- once you get on the list, I get 5-6 per week that I usually can do. Sometimes I don't screen out. Some are $20, $30, $50, $75- they add up over time.

Who the hell buys used watches for more than new?

LOL.

The right watches appreciate very well. I have a PP 5711 bought in 2013 that has been trading at roughly twice what a new one sells for 4 -5 years. It took a $35 grand jump in the last 3 weeks when Patek announced the 5711 was discontinued.

You can buy a Rolex ceramic Daytona today and sell it for more than twice what you paid tomorrow.

Not all watches appreciate but some do significantly.

Do they tend to hold their value and appreciate, or depreciate? Considering getting this, but didn't know about resale value.

Don't buy a Speedmaster Racing and expect much if any appreciation at least not outstripping inflation or the buoy that rising Omega prices will induce. Those Speedys have a modified ETA movement and depending on the version aren't what I consider long-term stable. I would rather have something like my Mk 40 that uses an ETA 7753 or a Speedy Pro. I did have a Schumacher version for a while and it is a fine watch but I think they are overpriced for what they are and will always be the red headed step child of the Speedmaster range.

You lose 40% (or more) the second you walk out of the store. Omegas can be had at significant discounts.

Be aware while he may find a NIB version of the watch in the OP it is not a current catalog Omega. The current Omega Speedy Racing line uses the caliber 9900 movement and is 44.25mm the watch in the OP is 40mm (technically more like 39).

Not to derail the thread but I really want this Planet Ocean. Good buy? Honestly, probably doesn’t matter, I think this is my next watch.

Good buy is relative, right? I own 4 POs so I guess I must feel they are worth the money. Setting aside resell and the MSRP I like the PO as much as the Submariner as a whole, some attributes I like about the PO better and some I prefer the Sub. I suggest you buy it on the bracelet but when you feel like you want to change it up get the OE rubber strap and deployant buckle, it makes it look and wear like a completely different watch.

One note if you size the bracelet yourself the "screws" in the bracelet are actually just caps on either side of a pin. It is an excellent engineering solution that allows for a sturdy pin and prevents the movement of the bracelet from unscrewing standard bracelet screws BUT they are damn easy to lose especially if you don't realize they are just a tiny cap and not a full length screw. DAMHIK.

There is some sort of waiting list for a Daytona, correct?

The longest Rolex one at most ADs. Unless they get extraordinarily lucky I doubt a first time buyer could ever get one from an AD no matter how long they wait, at least until the market cools. White Daytonas are trading nearly 3 times list for unworn watches and the black ones are maybe $4k less but still over 2.5 times list.

Just checked the market and the average is showing just over $27k for used versions from a 13,150 retail.

ETA I forgot to add the expected waitlist time in smaller markets (shorter than say NYC or LA) is about 2-3 years. If I was able to call in all my favors for a white one I would feel lucky if I could get one in under a year. In the end it is all one big game.

if you’re buying at full retail price expect it depreciate 20-40%

Where are good places to look at online that are safe/legit that you don’t pay full price? In the market for one just not sure where all to look at to price. Thanks for info.
