Exactly.

Modern liberalism is based upon secularism with a strong atheist overtones.

For them there is no afterlife. There is only the here and now. Therefore they want THEIR short life’s to be as utopian as possible.

They are extremely selfish.
Morality is blasé if it interferes with a good time. Many have no time for children or a spouse. Hook up culture gains in popularity daily as they chase one fleeing pleasure after another.
Reality interferes with their selfish pleasures, so they create a government that suppresses it. Free this, free that, I don’t care because I’ll be dead before the bill comes do!

They are their personal god, pleasure is their morality, socialism and totalitarianism is their catechism, and government is their church.

Think about it, if the world effectively ends with their own personal extinction, burning the world down to keep your selfish arse warm is a GOOD thing.
