- it goes to kids in need
- families don't have to spend to stay with their child
- .82 of every dollar goes to those in need
- it has pushed childhood cancer survival rates from 20% to 80%

Olivia had acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), a type of blood cancer. ALL is the most common form of childhood cancer, but thanks to treatments invented at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, its survival rate has increased from 4% when St. Jude opened in 1962 to 94% today.

donated last year and will this year as well. Hard to watch those commercials without tearing up. The health care workers that work there are the real hero's.

Is it hard to get accepted into St Jude facility or are people using it as a Medicaid supplement for low income households. Honest question.

We donate every year. Local radio here used to do a telethon every year. The testimonials just make you cry. They're doing the Lord's work at that place.

quote:82% sounds great . How does 82% compare to most charities? I once knew a family whose son benefitted & as a teen I wondered " How could they afford this?".

It’s very easy to be accepted. The only thing that really prevents it is if you have had treatment somewhere else. It’s a research hospital , so they want to follow and test from day 1. I have heard of them accepting kids after beginning treatment somewhere else as long as it’s surgical. Not sure if they will accept you if you already went through a round of chemo or radiation.
They are true miracle workers. Even more, the support they provide to patients , siblings and parents is second to none.

I cannot think of any charity more worthy than St Jude. Helping poor little kids with cancer. Heartbreaking that kids even get cancer.
I get irrationally pissy when I hear of some big donation going towards a political cause, or something like “fighting hunger” in a place where 50% of people are obese.

People from all socio-economic backgrounds are at St. Jude’s. They also share their research with doctors all over the country and world. It’s a first-class organization. They do bill insurance, but because of generous donations, patients do not pay anything out of pocket. Be thankful if no one close to you has needed its services.

I have a cousin who is there now with his young son that was recently diagnosed with an aggressive Leukemia. St Judes is taking care of everything, including a rented apartment for the family during his chem treatments. I’ll never give a $1 to any other charity other than St. Jude. Every dollar seem to be well spent.
