On the broadcast last night they quoted CPM as starting that Morgan could play SS if he threw right-handed.

The whole “no lefty SS/2B/3B/C” is a dogma that I’ve always wanted to see challenged and Trey has the exact type of athleticism to pull it off.

ETA not advocating for Thompson to be benched just would love to see this tried

What has Thompson done at SS to suggest we need a different one?

That’s why I always hated baseball as a left hander. Being too damn athletic to just be standing on first base for something I have no control over.

Better pitchers, better finishers in basketball, better tennis players, better boxers.

It’s not just some tradition that righties only man infield positions. There’s a valid reason. Lefties would have to turn to get in a throwing position on every throw to first, including routine ground balls. Righties are already in a throwing position on everything except balls up the middle. It’s why the rules of baseball have first base where it is. If you flipped it, and third base was first base, all infielders would be left handed. There are more righties in the world, which is why it makes sense the way it is. It’s also the reason catchers aren’t left handed. There are more right handed hitters that would obstruct a throw from a left handed catcher.

Out of all the amazing left hand athletes playing baseball in the entire world you think none have played shortstop at a high level just because of some "tradition"?

Agree 100% and you have to hear me out on this. Lefties make better short stops, period and here is why.

1- A ball hit at the SS can be played equally by both LH and RH players

BUT

2- A ball hit to the SS left side is MUCH EASIER PLAYED by a LH thrower. It's a more natural throw where the LH player does not have to turn their body.

And here's the kicker: ALL PLAYERS ARE TAUGHT TO HIT THE BALL UP THE MIDDLE. And this plays directly into the strengths of a LH thrower.

Clearly an advantage for lefty SS.

And finally,

3- A ball hit to the SS right side can be played normally with a body turn like for a RH SS playing a ball up the middle. If it's a ball far to the SS right side, the SS can play it like an easy RH SS double play - IE, flip it to the 3B who guns it to 1B. The 3B has the strongest arm on the team, so this is natural. The LH SS is already moving towards the 3B, so this is the easiest flip in baseball.

Baseball is still stuck in the 1900's, and like the "Opener" mod for pitching, the LH SS is the next evolution in the game coming.

Try turning a double play with a left handed second baseman receiving the feed from SS.....end of discussion!

There is a reason why there are no left handed SS at high levels.
Your an arse if you don’t understand that.
