Coming to share similar. My house is 3600 sqft simple hip style with 2 dormers 8 on 12 and it just cost me $20k in November to have it replaced. State Farm paid for about half of it but with deductibles it was less than a quarter of it.

Hail needs to be around 1" in diameter to damage a roof in good condition. Hail of this size causes all kinds of other tell tale signs that it was on the property. Soft metal, splatter on driveways fences and decks. An experienced adjuster will see the size of collateral damage and expect to see other similar damage. When damage doesn't match up the hair on the pack of their neck stands up and they start looking closer at the damages. Best chance to get away with fraud is to get an inexperienced adjuster, which is just luck of the draw.

Did SF pay for 1/2 the shingles or 1/2 of the cost of the roof. If it is 1/2 the cost of the roof, do you not have a replacement cost policy on your home? Do you have recoverable depreciation?

They don’t... Hail hits everything including gutters, metal vents, fences, plants etc. Hitting the roof with a hammer is easy to see the fraud.

1/2 the cost of the roof. I don’t want to hi Jack the thread and turn it into my whining session... I have replacement cost but they said only the south and east sides of the roof were damaged but not the north and west sides. This was after they initially completely denied any damage and after a second adjuster and contractor meeting.

How long have you owned the home?
Under 90 days, means the inspector didn’t do his job. He carries Errors and omissions insurance: you can get your fee back.
The trick becomes; did the previous owner know his roof was damaged and did not to shell out his deductible? Now you need a Real Estate attorney unless the contract says “as is”
Never, ever let an inspector do the inspection alone. Look over his shoulder, ask questions. Did the inspector climb a ladder and actually inspect the roof? I inspect for insurance companies, including foreclosed and bank seized homes. I encounter plumbers, electricians, hvac, pool contractors and roofers every day. Buyers are wiser ... the home inspector is most likely not an expert in all fields, so like a Doctor, the specialists are called upon to determine what is in need of repair or doomed to fail.

We bought out home knowing the roof needed to be replaced. Had their insurance review to see if it was covered and it was denied. So we negotiated the price down based on an estimate from a roofing company. Wasn't leaking, so we waited a few years. but ultimately had it replaced last year. Only choice was to come out of pocket. Simple roof and cost was ~15,000 here in TX.
If it was disclosed prior to sale, there is really nothing you can do from what I understand.

Or you could call Jasper roofing, oh they're not here anymore,
I hated getting on a roof Jasper inspected, I recently had a friend use another company because I would not make hail damage, this roofer was making wind damage, been doing this 13 yrs never ever would I lie to customer or to an adjuster
Everything Wick said is 1000% true
