What is the point of raising taxes?

What is the point of raising taxes when we are spending so much money? Any tax increase is esssentially a drop in the bucket and cannot pay for any of these spending programs. I think Biden claims it would raise 2.1 trillion over TEN years. That doesn’t even cover the deficit for ONE year now.
There is no fiscal justification for raising taxes. It is purely political punishment.

It’s amazing how many of y’all can’t calm down and figure out which board you’re on before your rant.

It's a counter strategy to the pubs "starve the beast".
If a grand reset is forced upon the government...and the only way for both sides to agree is for a 1 for 1 ($1 spending cut for $1 tax increase) deal then it's best to set your anchor as far out as possible.
With covid this was their opportunity to go peak government.
thanks alot Georgia

Well, if they're low enough that raising taxes actually generates more money for the Government instead of hurting it, that's a decent reason for Government to raise taxes.
You'd probably have to drop taxes all the way to 7-8% before you can raise taxes back to where that maximum point of government revenue is, which is probably 9-10%

It is political
They want to villify employers knowing that they’re a minority in this country.
They want the middle class working person to hate those making over a certain amount- in this case 400,000
It will never be enough to satisfy the enormous deficit or debt.
We have a spending problem but they cannot accept it

Pay attention to the rhetoric. The left never says 'We need to raise taxes to pay for ...'
They say 'We need to make the rich pay their fair share to pay for ....'
Taxation is a punishment for those who are unjustly wealthy. It has nothing to do with paying for anything. It's class envy.
As Obama said when he ran for President: 'They say it's class warfare. Yes, it is. I'm a class warrior.'

This country has never had a revenue problem but has long had an insatiable spending problem.
