Itinerary Help: Vegas/Sedona/Grand Canyon in 8 Days with a 12-Year Old

I need advice on allocating Spring Break vacation days between the Vegas area and Sedona.
Background -- Husband and I have both been to Vegas a fair number of times when we lived in California – but haven’t returned in the last 15 years since we moved to the East Coast. Our 12 year old will be with us. None of us has ever been to Sedona. Covering Vegas, Sedona and the Grand Canyon within the 8 days we have is a must for this trip. Trip is in April 2022, so there’s plenty of time to figure out what to do. I'm pretty clueless on Vegas with kids, and Sedona altogether, so I'm not certain about allocating time between the two. I just need to figure out the rough itinerary so I can made reservations for the correct night at one of the South Rim lodges when they open for April 2022 reservations on April 1, 2021.
Current thinking –
Sat – Fly into Vegas (arrive in morning). Drive to Hoover Dam area hotel via Valley of Fire.
Sun – Early Hoover Dam tour (assuming they’ve resumed post-COVID -- husband really wants to do this, so if they’re not open for tours, we’ll further postpone the trip). Drive to Sedona for 3-night stay.
Mon – Sedona
Tues – Sedona
Wed – Drive to Grand Canyon for one night only.
Thurs – Drive to Vegas (perhaps via Red Rock) for 2-night stay.
Fri – Vegas
Sat – Fly home.
Does this seem about right?

I am going in 2 weeks. Flying into Phoenix. Staying in Sedona. 1.5 days for the Hoover dam/LV. 1 day for grand canyon. Maybe a day for a spring training day. My wife has 4 other days planned which I have no clue. I will report back.

I've heard this camping place in Sedona is absolutely amazing. You can choose between camping in an ancient Indian cave dwelling or a bubble house hanging over a cliff.

You don’t need to stay overnight at GC. It’s a two hr drive from Sedona. Just book an extra night in Sedona and day trip it. We did it with my 10 yr old nephew.
Drive in at the entrance on the east side of the canyon (Desert View) then take your time going along the South Rim to the main Visitor’s Center. You’ll be ready to rest when you get back to Sedona, but it makes for a good day.
Check out the Hyatt Residence Club in Sedona. The one bedroom suite with living room, sleeper sofa and full kitchen would be perfect for you guys.

We leave next weekend for a week. Spending few days in Scottsdale then going to Sedona. Will be doing day trip to Grand Canyon

We did a very similar trip last year. Flew to Vegas due to the cheap airfare. My kids were in college so a bit older. They thought LV was cool for about two hours, then they began to see it for what it is. It is kind of like being in the hood, a NASCAR event and in Walmart at the same time with lots of pot, prostitutes and over weight people in thongs walking around.
With that said, while in LV we went to the Beatles Cirque De Soleil, visited Pawn Stars shop, went to the Atomic testing museum, visited nearby Red Rock Canyon, rode the big ferris wheel, let them shoot at the artillery range near the airport and they played about $40 of blackjack just for fun. As a word of caution with kids, while there they had the extra bonus of seeing someone pull out a shotgun during an argument in a parking lot, lots of drug use, prostitution billboards every where and people standing naked in front of their hotel windows. As stated previously, it is a bit sketchy. That was even the opinion of my college aged kids.
Outside of LV we visited Hoover Dam where we enjoyed being a bit corny and making jokes about the dam engineering, the dam parking lot, the dam tee shirts, etc. It was about as much fun as pointing out the big arse phalt machine doing the road work that we passed on the way to the dam parking area. We also toured a gold mine in the area where a lot of movies have been made.
We stayed a couple of nights in Flagstaff and took in the Grand Canyon in one day.
Overall a fun trip. I’m obviously not a LV fan, but there is stuff to do there besides it being a party destination.

If we were only going to do one "ride" -- heli in Grand Canyon or hot air / heli in Sedona -- would you have a strong recommendation on which one it should be?

Sedona is a little more touristy and congested than I would prefer, and while the area is certainly scenic, it's not anything unique or spectacular.

I'd plan the trip in this order, hoover dam half a day, north rim of grand canyon for at least 2-3 days, then sedona.
But I like nature and hiking.

I can only offer two suggestions based on you requests:
Have you searched helicopter tour of GC from Vegas? I haven’t done it but it is offered frequently. May be a good way to see the park from the air. I don’t remember many options for that type of experience while near GC.
Secondly, check out a hot air balloon in Sedona. We booked a trip but wind was rough so we did helicopter tour instead and it was amazing.
I guess my suggestion would be visit these area from the air if possible.
