I like the team captain after 3 episodes

I just finished the season. It brought me back to my high school basketball days. Head coach was very similar to coach Mosley and our assistant head coach had the exact same personality as Coach Rob. Laid back cool guy but could be tough when he needed to be.
Man this was a great season. The ending had me tear up. I’ll wait for some more people to finish it before I spoil the ending. I disagree with jj27 saying joe Hampton is the worst person in last chance u history. That dude grew on me.

Joe Hampton is a grinder.
He definitely knows that he was a frick up early on in his college career.
I really enjoyed this season.

Fair enough. Maybe I’m misremembering, but can you name anyone else that just left their team in the middle of a game? Told his coach if he didn’t pull him he’d intentionally get kicked out of the game? Quit and got dressed in the middle of practice?
Like I said, what he said to the camera about throwing away his talent was just lip service. Actions speak louder than words.
I do LOVE the quote from the head coach on Hampton though. “We have to love them the most, when they deserve it the least.”

This was a great season. Probably the most emotional one to date

I agree with you that he shouldn’t have done that but his character arc is great and you end up rooting for the kid.

Buddy and Brown, while fantastic television, kind of screwed them over in the long run. Really, you can pin it on Buddy. He was such an arse but they kicked the shite out of almost every team so you had the perfect blend of pulling for the kids to win but also part of you wanted a team to shite down Buddy’s throat just to see him lose and freak out. Those first two seasons are fricking incredible.
BUT because of the drama and success and larger than life personalities that wasn’t really replicable, they went searching for those big dickhead personalities instead of making sure the quality would be good (making sure you could actually root for the players and see some success). Granted, it was still fascinating, but not as good and they clearly wanted to get away from that and tried something different with the team in Oakland, which is probably how they envisioned the show to being with. Problem was, most people now wanted to watch for all the crazy shite that could happen, and when there wasn’t much drama, no memorable characters, people shite on it when really, it was still fine.
I haven’t watched the basketball season but my hope is the show can find its way again and find a blend of the EMCC days and the Oakland season.

Just finished it. Easily the best season since the EMCC days. The end had me tearing up as well, and now I feel like an idiot for not realizing that’s how it was going to end due to the time it was filmed. Both coaches were amazing and the kids they focused on had great arcs, even had you rooting for joe in the end. His emotion finally came out there at the end after he played tough guy the whole show. Interested to see what they do with next season, at first was dissapointed when it was announced they were doing basketball but it turned out great

On episode 3 and this is my favorite group of coaches of all the seasons so far. These guys are awesome.

My favorite scene is when they go up to the cabin and do impersonations of the head coach.

Lol that was great “MARK GET OUT”
I have a cousin that lost his mom to cancer and he teared up when deshaun talks about his mom. Amazing he was able to get through that interview without breaking down. Kid is a soldier

Coach Rob is awesome. Guy does it all. I hope those kids realize some day what they had.

He is identical to my assistant head coach in high school.
I can’t remember the exact line but coach rob was talking to the guys in the computer lounge, in the first or second episode. They were going over assignments and one of the guys made some comment about something was tough and coach rob said it’s almost as if you are in college huh. I was cracking up.

Eh. It’s not a black and white issue. This show clearly paints the lives of the players and coaches as a grey area. People are complicated. He can equally be the player on the court that acted out and also the scared kid behind the camera. The guy isn’t an actor or journalist. He has no way of guarding his words or been coached on how to do that. These kinds of shows cut through the bullshite. I can see where some of the coaches could do that. Buddy certainly did. But he’s a kid.
He did do some fricked up shite during games and practice but I think we miss the point of the show when we say things like “worst character in the history of the show”. Like the coach said, most of these guys only have a tiny window and most don’t have someone to push them through it, let alone give them a second chance. Most of them don’t know what to do with a second chance. Joe has baggage and mental issues. We’ve seen a story like his many a time but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t root for them or write them off. The point is even if the story is the same...he’s still a person.
It’s just an easy answer to say he’s a shithead and move on. That requires no thought, no empathy, which is what the show encourages. Put yourself in these kids shoes. It’s scary shite to live through what could be the last chance to get your life turned around.

So in episode 3 or 4, did Joe Hampton already have the Covid????

Just finished it. And yeah. Absolutely the best they’ve done. Never shed tears during any of the seasons before. But I shed them in that last episode.
The EMCC seasons are still great, but they weren’t moving the way this season was. Don’t know how they’ll ever top it. Great cast.
ETA: the tradition of the teams not winning the championship continues. Really think they would have been the one to do it.

Damn that ending almost had me in tears. You see how many things got fricked up from the virus. I couldn’t imagine what they were going through. That coach deserves a championship
Netflix is always at the right place at the time with these shows. Season 1 with the epic fight at the last game and now this.

just finished the 1st episode. That goofy looking white dude they played in the first game of hte playoffs was killing it. Draining 3s, behind the back passes, going left hand at the basket. I was pulling for that guy to see what else he could do haha
