Beloso looked lost when he replaced him late in the Southern game. He goes for balls that he has no business going after leaving 1B uncovered.

Beloso was solid last year. He's not lost. Morgan is definitely the real deal, though.

It’s rare you talk about a first baseman making stellar plays, he’s basically there because he can hit and catch a ball thrown to him...Morgan breaks that mold, he’s a highlight reel at an undervalued position.

Beloso is a solid 1B. Morgan is just better and more dynamic. If he looked lost, it was from lack of playing the position for a long time.

Not nearly as much as you'd think. The gap in defensive value between a good defensive 1B and a bad defensive 1B just isnt that big, even when you're talking about an elite defensive 1B. It's easily the least important defensive position on the diamond.

ETA: for comparison, the gap between the MLB's best defensive 1B and it's worst defensive 1B in 2019 (the last full season) was ~17 runs (over the course of the entire 162g schedule)

The value of a great versus a marginal defensive first baseman is largely dependent on the arms of the infielders. Back in the day, I looked great at first playing with guys that had accurate throwing arms, but looked bad when I played with guys that threw it all over the place.

It also helps the other infielders knowing they don't have to make a perfect throw or they will probably get an error

The best thing for LSU is to shut down the baseball program.

Lacrosse is a much better sport.

Beloso a good 1B. Would start on any other team.
