Uga has performed best against 1-3-1 style trapping defenses. 90+ points against us the first time, 56 and 58% vs Ole Miss in those two games so why would Wade play that defense against them and why didn’t he have a change up ready in the very likely event that it wouldn’t work? We’ve had some very good stretches playing mostly man to man recently and we’re a much more athletic team than UGA so why wasn’t that option on deck in case? We haven’t been good on defense for more than a game or a game and a half at anytime all year. It’s not a priority and the fact that it’s not is our biggest problem.

Because Wade is absolutely convinced his shitty defensive approach works (or will work...someday) despite FOUR YEARS of evidence to the contrary.

I get it. He wants to play a more uptempo game. He wants his defense to force quick misses to get the offense out in transition where it it easier to score before your opponent sets up. But it IS, in fact, possible to "play fast" AND play good defense. Look no further than Alabama and Arkansas.

LSU is utterly lazy when getting back on defense in transition. They occasionally play solid half-court man to man WHEN they want to be engaged. But most of the time Thomas couldn't care any less about defending and Watford spends the entire fricking possession pointing and telling everyone else who to guard while guarding NO ONE himself. That's when they aren't unnecessarily leaving shooters to double-team guys who are (1) well defended and (2) not big offensive threats.

I like Wade. I DO NOT WANT HIM FIRED. But I think we are starting so see some of his statements/platitudes are just empty talk. He says every offseason they have to get better on defense...only to do nothing to actually get better.

He always spouts the mantra "never bet against consistent behavior". Well, the last two season his teams have been anything but consistent. They will look great for 2-3 straight games...only to then turn around against a weaker team and look totally disinterested. The loss to UGA was frustrating. But those kind of losses happen to just about every team. The infuriating part was after looking so focused in the last 3 games they came out with no effort or give a damn whatsoever. And we aren't talking about a game right before Christmas. This is the final week of the reg season
