It's exactly what you said. Many of the side stories are related to or expand upon story threads of the main plot. You don't know that because you skipped all the dialogue in a plot driven game.
You basically tried to play Fortnite without using the building mechanic then complained about the game being boring.
Weak as shite. Wild hunt was boring. Combat sucked too.

I would probably love it if I played it but I have other open world fantasy games that occupy my time like The Witcher
Still trying to figure out what I’m missing here. I’ve probably logged around 24 hrs now trying to get into the Witcher 3, since it won so many GotY awards but I just don’t get the purpose of anything I’m trying to do. Feel like all I do is collect potions screw hookers and ride on a horse named Roach. How do you get into this one?

I played witcher 3 and thought the main story was as boring as it could be. Yes, I skipped almost every side quest dialogue and I don't care what you say IDGAF about them. Wild hunt was cool for one cutscene.
Bro you must have a short attention span, the dialogue and the different options that come with it help make the game. All of the choices you make in those help shape a different storyline that you progress through. I am normally not one to replay a games campaign but the different outcomes in Witcher 3 have had me replay the game twice and buy the expansion packs. Not to mention the different signs and potions you would use for the different monsters.
Destiny raids are awesome but the D2 ones never really stacked up to the D1 ones imo.

Learning what signs to use against certain monsters and the different builds you could use with the mutagens also created different ways of doing combat. You could do a heavy build with combat ones so you can twirl or deflect arrows, a sign heavy build so that you signs are OP and blast opponents away or a potion build so you can engorged with potions and still be a monster slayer. Then there is also a balancing act of choosing what mutagen build you want. It took me awhile to figure it out and I had a some wikis opened to kinda help me learn the game since I didnt play the first two games. Plus the different runes you could put on your swords to light enemies on fire, freeze them, burn them etc. Idk it was a very deep game for me and I only felt like I was getting the hang of it when I started to battle the wild hunt. I replied to another user before I saw this but the different story lines and their outcomes was big for me too. Kept me wondering what would have happened if I did something differently. When I beat the game the first time I got the "bad ending" so I wanted to rectify that and achievement hunt also. If you are more of a casual gamer I can understand not being into it.
But this thread is evidence that no matter what game you think is an all-time one (like me and Halo)its not always going to be everyones cup of tea, so maybe Witcher 3 just isnt yours. I also liked trying to find all the different characters you could frick, finding the Iron Lady on one of the Skellige Islands was a funny surprise.

You need to pay attention to the cinema scenes, dialog, and get to know the characters. It's almost more like reading a book. If you skip the cinema scenes or don't pay attention to the story/dialog you will not enjoy this game.
I normally hate long story driven games and cinema scenes. But Witcher 3 is completely different in that regard.

It’s already been stated several times, but Mass effect for me. I tried on several occasions to play the first one, enjoyed it well enough, but I would get bad headaches. This is the only game that has ever caused that.

I refuse to play battle royale games and will remove anyone on my friends list who plays fortnite.
But I honestly have never played a single FromSoftware game (Bloodborne, Dark Souls, Sekiro, etc). I know they're highly regarded and always recommended, but maybe my lack of free time is why I can't play them.

Devil May Cry is also one for me. That may actually change soon, though.

Halo - Only really played Reach often
Gears of War - Don't like that style of shooter
Command and Conquer - Played early on but enjoyed Starcraft more so go to it for my RTS game
