2021 PFF NFL Mock Draft: Denver now the favorite to land Deshaun Watson?

Roll it.
Roll it.

9. HOUSTON TEXANS (TRADE WITH DEN): QB TREY LANCE, NORTH DAKOTA STATE
TRADE! Houston trades quarterback Deshaun Watson to Denver for the ninth overall pick, a 2021 second-rounder, 2022 first-rounder, 2022 second-rounder, 2023 first-rounder
The Texans' brass may keep insisting that they are not going to trade the star quarterback, but Watson looks as good as gone at this point. In fact, FanDuel now has the Broncos as the favorites to land Watson ahead of the 2021 NFL season.
If Denver were to acquire the star quarterback, it’s going to take a stupid amount of picks despite the quarterback having a no-trade clause getting in the way. And the Broncos reportedly are willing to do just that. After all, Watson was a top-three graded quarterback of the 2020 season and is on the path to Hall of Fame status, according to the research done by PFF’s Kevin Cole.
The Broncos acquiring Watson would have the same impact we saw this past season when Tom Brady signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. They’d be Super Bowl contenders right away.
As for Houston, they’d be focusing on a full rebuild, and it all starts at the quarterback position. Lance is a high-risk but high-reward prospect to commence that rebuild with. Put simply, Lance’s physical tools are bananas. He’s got a rocket for an arm and has elite athleticism that adds a lot of value to the ground game. But at the same time, he is glaringly inaccurate.
Lance played in just one game this year, as COVID-19 caused the FCS to postpone its season. In that showcase game, we saw exactly the same traits from 2019: incredible mobility but glaring inaccuracy. He carried the ball 15 times (13 designed, two scrambles) and put up six explosive runs of 10-plus yards, forcing nine broken tackles along the way. However, just 28.6% of Lance's passes were deemed accurate in the outing.

The Texans shouldn't be actively shopping him no matter how much he whines, but if someone offers this kind of package of picks, they should probably accept it.

I know Houston is stupid but there is NO WAY Denver is that stupid to give up that much for Watson.... I will keep saying this. Watsons next team will be Miami....

It’s also possible one of those picks doesn’t happen, and instead Denver trades Drew Lock to Houston. At least that’s been part of the rumored packages.

Just from a general fan of football standpoint, I'd LOVE to see Watson in Denver.

After dealing with the quarterbacks Denver has had since 2016, me too.

I bet Houston fans can’t wait for Drew Lock......

Why would a random mock draft make Denver the favorite all of a sudden?

That would be pretty good for the Texans. I'd rather go a couple of years with Lock during the rebuild/reset. Take BPA with the 9th pick..

They'd need to throw in a young star at some other position if they are going to offer that package.

While I would do everything to make D. Watson happy if I were the Texans (including firing Easterby), it's probably past the point of no return.
Watson's best year of his career gives the Texans at least a bit of leverage. The local Houston radio shows think they can get a bunch in return. I'm a little more skeptical given Watson's huge salary and that it's known he wants out.
Still, if you can trade him for Lock, 2-3 1st's, and another good defensive starter or two, then it could work out better in the long term (than having Watson with minimal 1st round picks in upcoming years).
I'd also rather take a shot with Lock than Jimmy G. I'm still not sure about Tua's potential but he might be interesting also to take a flyer.

I’ve seen Justin Simmons and Von Miller mentioned as options. Justin Simmons would be more likely, IMO.

I heard two different national guys over the weekend claiming that while the Panthers are going after Watson, it's likely Watson wouldn't want to go there.
I can understand Watson wanting out of Houston but would lose a little respect for him if (for example) the Panthers offer the best package but then Watson vetoes the trade because he's rather go somewhere else.

Why wouldn't he want to play in Carolina?

Given the hissy fits he's thrown lately, probably because Matt Rhule and Joe Brady are white.
