in today's offense, a QB cannot be stuck in mud, and Finley, who has a big arm and little else, will always be stuck in mud.

So will Brennan.

Who was that guy that qb that just won the super bowl? What was his name? I think he ran a 4.2 40 or something.

Couldn't agree more about Finley. I like Johnson but Finley has loads of talent. He or Johnson wasn't give a true chance to succeed with how our O-line played. Our offensive line play was atrocious at best last year (which completely surprised me).Hopefully the best QB plays and the rest continue to develop and only make LSU better in the future.

But Johnson doesnt need an elite OL where as Finley does to me. That was kind of my point. Johnson has the mobility to escape pressure and still make a play, where as Finley is going to either more take the sack or throw the ball away or rush a bad throw. Finley has more physical arm talent than Johnson, but if he doesnt have the line or running game he wont necessarily hold up to show that off.

Brennan isn't Lamar Jackson out there, but he's MUCH more mobile than Finley. It's really not close.

Finley needs better pocket presence. Once and if he can figure that out he will be okay. The problem he will have is he won't have that time to figure it out here. Years ago(aka under Miles) he would have had that time. Too many good QB in line with him and it won't get any easier, with Howard and Co coming in soon.

I'm okay with our QB situation, really ok! I feel bad for the kids that can't cut it but the transfer portal gives them a chance. With Brennan, Johnson, Finley, Nuss and with Howard coming in 22' something gotta give. We know all 4 won't be here and it's highly likely that at least 2 out the 4 might not be once Howard gets on campus.

Let's say Brennan goes pro after this year. Going into 22' season, Johnson will be a JR, Finley will be a JR, Nuss a RFR and Howard a TFR. This is of course if all stay, which I think we know one or more won't be here at the start of the 21' season.

Just an FYI to all of you out there, this guy started off decently against WSU and Stanford, but he threw a few atrocious balls that should have been picks, maybe pick-6s, go through the hands of the defensive backs. After this, his confidence got shaken to the point of no return. He began playing extremely scared and timid, which is no good obviously. I think he will find his place at a G5 school. Definitely not LSU caliber at all.

It’s nice to be in a situation where we just don’t need him. Really we needed 1 out the portal and we got it in mike Jones.

You are the most disgusting poster on this board why bash a player on the team ? The QB position is wide open buddy let’s see what happens who stays and who leaves .

I don't understand the questioning of Finley.
Just out of HS.
No Spring practice.
Weak OL
No running game.
He has a lot of potential IMO. He is better than any QB recruit during Miles tenure.

Let him compete through spring practice.
You know what's even crazier to consider? Finley is nowhere near his ceiling. Do you know why Max looked better than him? He's been learning how to play QB since he could walk by his former NFL QB dad. He has been drilled for years and years on how to be the perfect QB. He has had years in QB centric offenses, running QB drills and mingling with great QB minds. Same with Nuss.

Finley went to a school where they were still a wing t offense then transfered to a school with a triple option offense. The only reason they adapted to pass the ball was because he was that talented. This guy had like 2 years of amateur QB coaching before going to LSU.

What you saw last year with no spring, offseason, etc, was his raw ability with some tape slapped on.

I still think Brennan wins out convincingly for 2021, but 2022 is going to be a dogfight for the #1 QB spot. Whomever comes out on top is going to be a boss no doubt.

Freshmen typically aren’t elite with pocket awareness and their timing clocks. TJ’s problem excluding having zero mobility is that his awareness and decision making were horrid. I’m not saying he can’t improve, and the deeper the quarterback competition the better, but I also don’t think you can blame the entire oline when Max Johnson, behind the same guys, pulled out a dub in the swamp behind the same oline. I personally think TJ is behind max for the remainder of his time here, but you know what they say about opinions
ehh, you're comparing Florida's defense to Bama, TAMU, and Auburn. Two of those were top defenses and another decent. Those guys gameplanned for Finley with a bad OL. Now I'm not saying Max didn't have the mental aspects down more than Finley, but I am saying that people are putting way too much stock in that Florida game.

I think 2022 will be the real time where you can judge both going forward.
