Let's talk about the subject of echo chambers

This terms get tossed out quite often here, mostly by our "newer" lefty posters who have appeared like magic recently. I continually find it amusing, given the current state of American communication.
We live in a country in which nearly ALL of news media, the entertainment industry, professional and collegiate sports organizations, the educational structures and social media lean left of center. This combination creates the very contemporary society in which we all live. it surrounds us entirely and we live our whole lives within it. You can imagine it being a physical structure even.
A "chamber" if you will.
And in this "chamber" there is one preferred and protected speech, and it's the one promoted by these institutions. It gets repeated over and over as each institution amplifies the latest talking point to where it soon gets repeated by the citizenry. It bounces back and forth to a point in which it becomes unable to ignore.
You might even call this an "echo."
And yet...on a daily basis here, we are told about the horrors of this little old place and how it functions as nothing but an "echo chamber."
So despite living in country that at this point functions as a gargantuan echo chamber repeating and amplifying the left's point of view while at the same time silencing any opposition from the right, we've actually got posters here with balls hefty enough to suggest this place is the problem and needs more of an influx of left wing posters to open up our "echo chamber."
It's simply adorable...

When Twitter and Facebook are done with their purges,
how can those forums not become echo chambers?

All are true
MSM is a leftist echo chamber
This place is a pretty Trump-right echo chamber
Reddit is a leftist echo chamber
etc.
There is a certain twitter sphere where you get some of both and the discourse isn't really limited to team blue team red team trump - Glenn Greenwald, James Lindsay, Bret Weinstein, etc. but that's pretty much it.

Yes. The rule of thumb is that if someone constantly accuses others of an act or behavior, then that person is most probably guilty of it.

At least this place doesn't actively sensor and ban posters for having different views. I love talking to people who differ in opinion than I do. Sadly these people do not have the same tolerance as I do

Leftists are miserable people. They want everyone else to be miserable too.

Don't misunderstand my point. I'm not suggesting this place is not insulated and does not lean mostly right. It does, but for the purpose of the original post I did not want to dilute the point there.
I'm not in favor of the siloing on view points and wish most places were better able to have free and open discussion from all sides. I wish all sorts of things which are not real though...
The nation in which we currently live is far and away controlled by left wing ideology and within that framework one is free to do and say whatever you'd like. If you're outside of the orthodoxy in the mainstream conversation, you get ostracized and "cancelled."
So while I'm not in favor of any sort of echo chamber, I'm not going to lose any sleep over concerns about this place when nearly all other structures in society function as left wing versions.

Don't misunderstand my point
I can accept that analysis.

If you want to live in a leftist echo chamber, avoid right-leaning websites.
If you want to live in a right-wing echo chamber, avoid all major news networks including CNN, MSNBC, ABC, CBS, NBC, avoid all major newspapers, make sure your TV shows are screened, avoid twitter, facebook, and the home pages of all major search engines, avoid sports, and avoid academia. Also don't forget to avoid left-leaning websites.

I used try to listen to both sides of an issue. I felt that too much of a forum that told me what I wanted to hear would make me narrow minded and lopsided.
Better narrow minded than part of the jackbooted thug criminal Leftist cabal. They don't care about both sides of the issue. They're communist revolutionaries. They cancel anyone who dares think his own thoughts. They don't care who they have to trample to silence any opposition.
The Left has become a monster. They doesn't deserve an audience, with their despicable behavior, power-hungry behavior.
Sites like this are a haven for half the country.

9 times out of 10 I read the first couple of post of a thread then go see which post was downvoted to infinity to find the alternate argument to form my opinion.

Yep. I add to the downvote total too.

Echo chambers exist on both sides. Everybody would be better off at least listening to people with different views. You don’t have to agree. Most of the political posts on Facebook (I have friends on both sides) are bad information and I ignore them. A few times I enlighten the poster, but it generally does no good.

Let’s talk about truth and how some people avoid it while others don’t...

This is not true. I steadfastly deny it. These organizations only exist within American capitalism, and they are owned by people who profit from American capitalism. At the end of the day, they all support American capitalism.

Stunning analysis.

Spot on, here! The preferred speech, of course, is speech that's supportive of American capitalism. Dissenting voices are allowed (just not tooo loud), of course, to give the image of "fair and balanced" debate.
Of course, it doesn't really suit your argument to say we live in the echo chamber of capitalism, does it?

man...don't get cocky! "problems" are important. This place isn't a "problem." This place doesn't have...idk, any sort of power. Biden's administration? That's a problem. Megacorporations? Those are problems. This isn't even one of the more influential breeding grounds of white supremacy and nationalism, as much as it wished it was.

Well I'd argue this place is partially the product of the leftist echo chamber that dominates most segments of society. And that's dangerous.
Don't get me wrong, I don't think Political Talk is dangerous, although I do think it will increasingly breed fringe views. I suspect more and more people are seeking out this board not because they're LSU or Auburn fans looking to talk politics, but because it allows robust speech on conservative/Trump causes and few other places offer that.
Siloing viewpoints, especially ones that are actually pretty strong and broadly held, is dangerous. When you shut down speech for a pretty big, pretty powerful (in many ways) segment, they're going to get frustrated and they're going to catastrophize (rightly or wrongly) what they see happening in society/culture. And when you force them into enclaves they're going to bitch and complain to each other in dark corners of society and lose some sight on the outside world. And some of them will end up taking it to a level that most won't.
The left wants this. They are hoping that by shutting down speech and forcing people underground, they'll be radicalized, they'll engage in violence and they'll be vilified - thereby destroying the movement and ideology behind them. I think the fatal flaw in that strategy is that the views are more broadly held than they want to admit.
But, combined with shutting off your entertainment if you don't have the right ideas, putting your jobs in jeopardy if you think the wrong way, etc., it's a pretty effective thought-control package they're putting together.
