Bitcoin will hit 100k this year and probably sooner than that. I thought it would eventually come down in price, but institutional investors are now recommending it. I think bitcoin will be part of most portfolios going forward as gold should be.

I highly doubt BTC as a store of value will waver in 10 years, primarily due to its finite supply, only second to institutional acceptance. Now they have a vested interest in seeing it succeed. 100 years, sure, 20, doubt it.

If you never plan to sell it, then why does it matter where it is going?

How would one purchase Bitcoin in E*TRADE? I don’t see it listed. Haven’t checked vanguard yet. Or is the play to simply invest in another route such as a fund that heavy in Bitcoin like an ARK etf? I’d like some exposure but not sure how to approach it

This is why I'm skeptical of it's value. It's supposed to be a currency, yet nobody wants to spend it.

When was the last time the first player in a revolutionary world ended up being the biggest player after 20 years? I struggle to come up with any.

There are coins that do the things Bitcoin is supposed to do better, imo, and when Bitcoin is mainstream for long enough, those coins or some others we haven’t seen yet will overtake it.

In the interim, however, BTC could run to $100k+ and I wouldn’t be remotely shocked.

poor slackster... this is probably the most realistic post here yet... XRP TO THE frickING MOON

It really depends on if the largest retailers in the world start accepting it as a legitimate currency.

Some of them are already exploring it.

But let's say for example, Amazon were to begin accepting cryptocurrency as a payment method, I would say the potential for BTC is easily $1Millon.

I see 3 cryptos in the future...

1 as a store of value, like GOLD... could be BTC, but I doubt it personally... (I love btc for the next 5 years though)

1 as a global value exchange... a SWIFT replacement and then some.. XRP TO THE MOON

1 as a venmo/tsnp style blockchain payment system...

But why?

They'd immediately sell it for USD, like most of BTC "transactions".

Acceptance as a currency is no more different logically than excepting AMZN shares as payment. Why would being able to pay for things in AMZN stock drive up the price of the stock?

I get the idea of inflation over time, but $1MM in the near future seems a bit outrageous just because of it's acceptance. If anything, that would provide liquidity to a market that is mostly hodlers.

None of that is relevant anymore. It's going to get more stable as acceptance increases. Throw your graphs and charts out.

Even if it continues, the law of large numbers comes into play. From it's peak in 2017, you'd have done just as well throwing your money into VTI, which was also at an all-time high.

Definitely going to 100K. Timeframe? Idk? However I'm not tying up $40K+ in it on the hopes of it going there.

So roughly 100% gain from here. What is considered a good stock year - 10% annual gain? Great stock year - 20% annual gain? Do you believe it will hit $100k within the next 5 years? If so, looks like it would be a better investment than the SP500. And you don't have to tie up $40k-$50k to do it as you assume. You can buy $1000 worth if you want. End of the day it is all about percentage gains. If Bitcoin goes to 100k, the 100% gain applies to whatever amount you invested.
