Many years ago our mother's permission was sought to remove timber. Never thought much

about it at the time. Mother died a few years ago and have been unable to identify the location of said land. We believe it is in Pointe Coupee parish and record searches have been wanting.
We assume she must have property rights to have been sought in the first place. Is there a way to track down/identify who made such a determination in the first place?
Knowing my family it wouldn't surprise me if some shenanigans hadn't gone on.
Thank you

Id assume she paid some type of property tax on it.
I'd start with the assessors office and search by your mothers/fathers name.
There is also a listing of sales by year. Could download those records and see if you see any relatives names...goes back to '17. Might take a few hours to browse through it all but might be worth it.
Search
The sales link is on a different page

Obviously I don't know the situation, but the above statement is not necessarily true. Timber rights can be held independent of other property rights. It's possible that the property was sold long ago with the timber rights withheld, and ultimately ending up being held by your mother, and may have expired with her death. This was very common on farmland years ago.

Look at her bank account and see what parishes she paid taxes. Get a Title Researcher in that area to investigate her name to see what land she owned.

Surely she signed a Timber Deed, which would be filed in the courthouse. Run a name search around that time and see.
If she owned the timber, then she most likely owned the property, or had recently sold it- I don’t believe that you can reserve Timber rights for more than 10 years, like oil & gas, but I’m not 100% sure.
