I’m a Jiu jitsu guy and our sport is absolutely plagued by the fact that top level guys won’t fight other top level guys, and I really hope that fighters like Dustin don’t start the same problem in MMA because they want to protect their brands and pick and choose good stylistic matchups for themselves
I know this might not be received well because we’re on a Louisiana forum and I get that Dustin is a great guy and has turned into a great role model, etc. but it really rubbed me the wrong way that he went so far out of his way to be Mr. “I’m going to promote my hot sauce at weigh ins and be buddy buddy with McGregor and make it clear that I’m a businessman first and a fighter second” guy throughout the entire process of UFC 257
It’s hard to describe but I feel like that mindset is extremely prevalent in BJJ and that was the first time I’ve seen it pour over into MMA on a noticeable level, it would be a very bad thing for the UFC if it became the prevailing mindset

Could you explain? I’m a white belt that doesn’t know shite, but I would never want to grapple my equal. That doesn’t help anyone. I always preferred to roll w a blue belt or up, mainly for safety bc they won’t go wild, also so I can be ready in the real world for all sizes of people. Is this an ADCC thing?

Honestly he did a terrible job at that because Conor was the one that actually brought it up first at the press conference. A reporter asked something about business and Dustin rattled off something then Conor jumped in and said what about the hot sauce and actually brought it up which led to Dustin bringing it to the weigh in. That’s what separate a guy like Conor from everyone else. He knew how to market himself in the fight game and outside of it. Conor would never ever rule a fight out against a top opponent he would make a case for it and have the feud ready to go in his back pocket depending on who had momentum. Chandler has a shitload of pro fights a lot against good fighters and has momentum. You don’t shite on the dude you say easy money I’ll cash that check anytime for the belt.
I also listened to his interview with Ariel and he was saying he didn’t like the fans and shite like that. Dude will never become a big name shitting on the fans.

It’s what done boxing in also. As long as Dana is running shite he will keep it going. If Dustin doesn’t want to fight he can sit at home. Nobody will miss a beat if he announces chandler vs gaethje or Oliviera for an interim belt of the real belt. He has done it before and will do it again if Dustin doesn’t fight who or when he wants.

Poirier isn't Scared of the fight/match-up. He just thinks Chandler needs to "pay his dues" first. But as Diat said, that might piss off Dana.
Also, they tried to make a Chandler vs Oliveira fight on short notice since Chandler didn't break a sweat. But Oliveira's camp was not happy. Can't say I blame them
