General Motors said Thursday that it will end the sale of all gasoline and diesel powered passenger cars and sports utility vehicles by 2035, marking an historic turning point for the big U.S.-based carmaker and a future full of new electric vehicles for American motorists.
But what about my truck? Mixed bag there.

The move won’t affect medium and heavy duty trucks, but it will include everything from cars and crossovers to full-size trucks and SUVs, such as the light-duty Silverado and Yukon.

I wonder how much taxpayer money is getting funneled to GM for this

So long roadtrips by vehicle are a thing of the past with a GM vehicle at that point?
No current electric vehicle can make it across all of Texas on a single charge.

I'm guessing they are betting on the technology by then for batteries. Otherwise, yeah this is a large inconvenience.

My vehicle sure as shite can't go across Texas on one tank of gas either.

Our OT Chevy guys will be starting threads about how shitty Ford's batteries are in 2037.

I can’t see how it would be feasible for all auto manufacturers to collaborate in this time span to agree on a single adopted charging port design that will allow a quick charge like Tesla. Even with that, think about a place like Buc-ee’s where the people have to stay at a pump for 30 minutes in order to “fill up.” Absolute nightmare

How long does it take to fill your gas tank?

Looks like it’s about 870 driving miles across the width of Texas. I’ve done a little over 700 miles in my truck. The question is how long does it take to charge an electric vehicle VS filling up?

It only takes you 5 minutes to fill your vehicle vs a 1hr + full charge at a supercharging station

People already do this at Buc-ee's.

i think his point was it takes 5 mintues to fill the tank with gas. How long does it take to charge an electric car?

Fair enough. But when cars were in their infancy, folks used to hand-pump gasoline as well.
By 2035 we'll just be swapping out cells at worst. At best, the damn things will just be charging themselves.

The hipsters in Brooklyn or San Francisco cheering this news have no use for long drives.

How are they getting to Coachella or Burning Man?

Their target date is 2035. Thats 14 years from now. Compare the technology today and look how fast and far we’ve come since 2004.
To think technology won’t evolve into something completely different than what it is today is disingenuous and naive.
