The case for Blake Baker as LB coach -

I don't think he's the the absolute most elite guy out there, but I think he'd be a very solid hire.
1. Louisiana ties out the wazoo:
- LB at Tulane
- La Tech safeties coach (2014)
- La Tech DC/LB coach (2015-2018)
- Married a woman from Mandeville
2. He has run a complete D1 defense himself. He improved it at La Tech the last 3 years, his last year ending up with the 39th ranked scoring defense in the country in 2018. That was up from the 90s 3 years prior. He also had the 23rd ranked scoring defense in 2019 at Miami before falling back in 2020 (pandemic year, I’ll forgive him and it only fell to 51st).
But remember, we’d just be hiring him for LB – not DC.
3. He coaches very aggressive LB play – his last year at LaTech they were 13th in TFL. In 2 years at Miami they were 6th and 4th.
nb4 tiger30 losing his shite because his boyfriend watches Miami games a lot and he doesn't like Blake...

Don’t care who it is as long as he can coach within Jones’ scheme.

Also - I'll add I think I'd rather Travis Williams
Just saying there are other good candidates.

I agree with you on Baker. My issue is people kept saying he is great recruiter and a great coach and his numbers dont prove that.

I read somewhere that his asking price is pretty high ($700k) since he is a co-dc at miami

Good points plus he has 2 DBs starting in the NFL one at Kansas City and one at Vegas from La Tech
Kiper has both his Miami U Def ends in the top 25 for this year’s draft

Stroud was the dline coach and one of the de's was a transfer from Temple who was already considered a top NFL prospect. Tell me what lb miami has that's a good nfl prospect???????

So he's more qualified to be the DC than the DC we just hired. Got it.

Blake Baker or Williams would be homerun hires, imo.

He also has Houston, TX ties as well (born/raised in Houston and coached at a high school there), which is key as no one on the current staff really has any strong or natural ties to Houston. As everyone knows, that is a key historical recruiting ground for LSU.

This is another reason I like him for the hire and think LSU is big on him. While he won't be DC or the primary DC, I could see them making him something like "Def. Run Game Coordinator" to justify higher salary and a role in assisting Jones with overall defensive scheme and game planning.
I'm sure LSU would make it clear that Jones is the DC and has the final say on scheme and is obvious play caller; but as he has no experience on D1 level and hasn't called defenses in 10+ years, Baker would be a solid sounding board and safety valve for him. Think of it sort of like how Ensminger was the stability and safety valve for bringing in Brady.

What a surprise, Tiger30 getting his panties all up in a bunch and lashing out at other posters.
Good lord man, get a grip

This exactly what I was thinking. Jones may need some help initially. Remember Ensminger is still on staff to help Peetz.
