Apparently, he's unable to accept reality, and instead is constructing scenarios that are "what he wishes was reality and what it would take to change reality into what he wishes were happening."
I mean... I certainly don't like the current situation, but I accept that it is the current situation. I don't create far flung scenarios that are wacky on their face in order to deny that what is real is really real.
