Don’t know if the state trooper made it or not but it’s clear that the driver of the pickup did not make it. The state police patrol car must have gone 30-35 ft in the air.

That could be a lack of training or a lack of common sense. Either way, it's a failure of the department.
ETA: Someone should have called him off at those speeds, if he was some kind of rouge idiot.

A classic example of cops causing more problems than the criminals themselves

High speed chases are so worth it!
And so are no knock raids!

What would happen if police didn't chase people in vehicles?
A lot of robberies would become very easy.

should have cleared the area ahead of him and threw out a spike strip

You don't have helicopters in the air instantly.

This is stupid. It's simple. Cop gets behind him, grabs plate number and backs off. Call in the chopper to follow him. Apprehend him alive when he gets out the vehicle. High speed chases are for morons. It never ends up well. Cop should lose his life over it as well as the one he's chasing.

eventually he would have ran out of gas.

Then back off, give a description of vehicle, have dispatch call all units ahead, etc. Nothing good happens from this shite. Today, these guys will be caught. No need to chase like that, only makes the prep drive crazier.

Right, because there's tons of choppers gassed up and ready to go, especially in rural Arkansas. You really think every agency has one dedicated chopper for every FTY on the highway?

I was referring to the term high-speed chase with out qualifying. Chases can be high speed from the beginning. Police need to chase sometimes. They dont need to use dangerous maneuvers meant for lower speeds.

the officer that pulled the maneuver had a 15 min heads up before he joined the pursuit. he couldn't just hop out his car and roll it out?
