Obviously this is a push to get gamers onto GamePass since it would only be a few bucks more a month than gold but its still real shitty move imo. $120.00 just to be able to play online and 2 free older games per month. They still have 12 month gold cards available for now at 59.99.I just bought three will hopefully be able to get the Game Pass deal for a dollar when my subscription ends next month.
I heard if you turn off auto renew, let the game pass subscription expire, buy the gold cards, renew gold, then add game pass it should give me the same deal a lot of us have gotten in the past where the game pass subscription applies to the time left on your gold account for $1.00.

Microsoft is increasing the prices of its Xbox Live Gold subscription soon. The software giant has started notifying existing Xbox Live Gold members of the changes in certain markets, and it will see the price rise by a dollar to $10.99 per month in the US and $5 for a three-month membership.
Twelve-month and six-month pricing is also going up, but the increase won’t affect existing subscribers here. Three months will now be priced at $29.99, with six months at $59.99. Microsoft is also allowing Xbox Live Gold members to convert their remaining Gold time into Xbox Game Pass Ultimate (up to 36 months). The conversion means if you have 11 months of Xbox Live Gold left on your account, you can upgrade to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and convert it into 11 months of Ultimate with no extra costs.
Unless you subscribe to Xbox Live Gold, this does mean the price of the service is moving from $60 a year to $120. Microsoft quietly removed its 12-month option last year, which used to be priced at $60.

I just renewed for the regular price in December, I'll keep an eye on it though if it tries to charge me $120 this December I'll cancel.

I mean not having reasons prices since 2010, thats not too bad. Not like Netflix where you can count on an increase every 3 years or so. I think the big this is truly trying to get people to join GP Ultimate. Seems like they might want to just drop Xbox Live Gold and fold it all in under the GP umbrella, but who knows

Gamepass Ultimate for $15.00 isnt bad considering what they are offering now. My issue is charging $120.00 year for Gold just to play online seems really excessive. For people that just play a few online games a year that is a shitty deal.

If you’re an existing online 12-month or 6-month Xbox Live Gold member, there’s no price change. If you choose to renew your membership, it will renew at your current price.
Xbox Wire
So maybe it's not completely changing?? Getting grandfathered in?

I am paid up through March of 2022 when they originally launched the $1 upgrade.
It will suck when it goes full price again next year on me. The $1 upgrade was one of the best gaming deals ever.

It’s naive to think they won’t raise the price on Gamepass as well down the line.

I don't doubt they will. If they continue to expand the service by adding more publishers catalogs Im ok with it. I usually buy one used or new game a month but not so much since gamepass. I really like the service. But for those that don't game much...they really shouldn't have to pay just to play online.

I may be switching to a PS5 sooner than I expected to.

Think my current sub ends in 2023 sometime, so at least there's that
Would encourage everyone to take advantage of that $1 deal or whatever

I thought it was only for new accounts going forward. Maybe I read it wrong.

Looks like after my 2 years are up(i buy 3-4 years of gold at a time), i'm using the fire stick for streaming, and console is a paper weight.
$120 is a super rip off just to play online. I'm an Xboner, but they can so suck my 3 inch penis.

They backed off of it after receiving backlash. They're also making free to play games actually free to play. No Gold required anymore. https://news.xbox.com/en-us/2021/01/22/update-on-xbox-live-gold-pricing/

We messed up today and you were right to let us know. Connecting and playing with friends is a vital part of gaming and we failed to meet the expectations of players who count on it every day. As a result, we have decided not to change Xbox Live Gold pricing.
We’re turning this moment into an opportunity to bring Xbox Live more in line with how we see the player at the center of their experience. For free-to-play games, you will no longer need an Xbox Live Gold membership to play those games on Xbox. We are working hard to deliver this change as soon as possible in the coming months.
If you are an Xbox Live Gold member already, you stay at your current price for renewal. New and existing members can continue to enjoy Xbox Live Gold for the same prices they pay today. In the US, $9.99 for 1-month, $24.99 for 3-months, $39.99 for 6-months and $59.99 for retail 12-months.
Thank you.

I legit wonder how they thought they could get away with that
Maybe it was a marketing ploy the entire time

Maybe that, or they just got some idiots running the show
I'm just glad they reversed it. I don't plan to renew my Gamepass in a couple of months. I only want online play, but not for $120 for a year like they were going to do.
