You people who believe that civilization hangs in the balance over an election

50 or 100 years from now, people will look back and note this current period (and Trump) as a historical curiosity.
Movements, left and right, populist and otherwise, come and go. Presidents come and go. Predictions of the destruction of civilization, or of democracy, or of the American way of life, come and go.
The tide of history is bigger than any politician or movement. The tide rolls in and out over the course of decades and centuries. Ultimately every successful civilization destroys itself, but something new will take its place.
You people take your politics, and yourselves, way too seriously.

I take it seriously when the “thing” taking its place involves calling people that support the president terrorists. Or that tries to tell me teaching my kid there are only two genders is wrong.

I hope like hell you're right. If anything, it's gotten people like myself who never gave two shites about politics to become involved. Having said that, I've made a resolution to become more active in local politics, but don't really know where to start.

It not going to happen over night . But politicians will slowly destroy this country like they have for years . I wish they would do it all at once but they know they have to do it slowly for it to work .

Ah yes, the tides of history. Hundreds of thousands killed at Verdun and the Somme. Just waves crashing in the echo of antiquity. Thousands of legionaries butchered at Cannae.
