I’m not sure what those rankings indicate, but Alabama finished 13th nationally in scoring defense. They were also 13th in 2019.

I grabbed yards. Scoring defense might be a better indicator in 2020.

Where is all this smoke coming from?

I know Blake at AYS has been saying his name since last Friday.

If we hire Pete Golding I am gonna melt.

That is helping Bama get rid of a coordinator they hate and us hiring an average-at-best coordinator ourselves.

Let' be real, Saban runs that defense!! and as you can notice, he's hiring all these x coaches so he can slowly sit back and just coach, not have to worry about babysitting every play call

It’s so tough to grade Bama.

They blow people out and they constantly have the best recruiting classes in the country.

I think there are other coordinators that need to be considered before him....That being said, we could do a lot worse

They would have to keep him otherwise?

Yea, I think if Saban wanted him gone, he would be gone. He's not waiting on us to help him out.

I meant the Bama fanbase as a whole - not Saban. They've been very underwhelmed and would love to see him go.

No clue what Saban thinks

When you make the move to the spread and RPO's it affects your defense
It's not all on Golding, Bama had to almost slow themselves down at times because they could have scored at will
Look at LSU even last year with Aranda

In Golding's defense his D performed a lot better vs tOSU then Venables and the Clemson D did.

I have only seen a rumor of Golding going to Texas. And that doesn’t seem to be panning out since Texas is after other DCs currently.

Golding Arrives

2019: 17
2020: 33

This is misleading. You are apparently using the total yards per game rank. Nobody gives a shite about that. Defenses are designed to prevent points. So scoring defense (points per game) rank over the same time period:

2016:1
2017:1
2018:12
2019:13 <- he arrives
2020:13

So it dropped a whopping total of 1 national spot from his predecessor in scoring defense, the only metric that means anything. Maybe this is still not up to standard, but it's still at an elite level and not at all the precipitous drop that cherry picked stats show.

LSU with one of the worst defenses of all time is too good for a guy who coaches top 35 defense for Alabama who scored like 60 a game. Not to mention last year when aranda did basically the same thing we made the same excuse for him

Too many Alabama fans are still sore at him for a young defense performing poorly in 2019. He just had the bad luck to inherit a rebuilding defense and then injuries on top of it.

This year they were much improved. But the Ole Miss game and Florida game still leaves people doubting him. But you could see the improvements. His play calling in the playoff was tremendous.

I for one, would love him back in 2021. Because he will have 8 starters back on defense.

This take shifts my thinking a bit - I've only seen Bama fans destroy him before, never really defend him.
