I watched because I can't bring myself to miss the last CFB game of the year and because while I hate to admit it, watching Bama's offense this year is fun. I totally get why it wouldn't be that interesting to most of the country, though. The same teams every year gets tired.

Alabama is bad for ratings. Who else besides Alabama fans gives a shite about Alabama? I mean the big states of California, Florida, Texas, New York, Pennsylvania just don't care about Alabama football.

You figure Ohio and Michigan were the only states who cared about the game in the North and no one outside of Alabama in the South really cared about the game. College football is in danger of becoming a regional sport like the NHL or NASCAR. Outside of the Big Ten and SEC who will care about college football?

In these times I would have argued Friday night would be best.

OSU at least brings in a ton of midwest eyeballs. I guess maybe having USC would bring in the west coast, but I don't know what other teams might draw big ratings. Texas? I think Bama/OSU is about as big of a national heavyweight fight as you could have. There is definitely Bama fatigue, but that matchup is way more intriguing to the public than Bama/Clemson.

I think it's because most people knew bama would win. You likely had huge parts of the west and Midwest that didn't care about this match up.

ESPN says last night's national championship game drew 18.7 million viewers.

This is without the numbers from streaming.

I watched the game on the ESPN app. I'm not included in that number.

Yet.

I agree. I would not have bothered watching a Clemson-Alabama game. Notre Dame and Ohio State would have had higher ratings than Alabama and Ohio State.

The problem is that a Detroit and Cleveland super bowl would still be the highest rated TV even of the year and maybe set records since the Lions are the Chicago Cubs of the NFL.

Can you imagine how low the ratings would be for an Alabama and Cincinnati game? Coastal Carolina and BYU would have been a disaster. College Football needs to make its product better.

Time for the executives at Disney to throw some cash around and get Bama on probation or something.

COVID didn’t kill the ratings.

Team fatigue didn’t kill the ratings.

The politics being injected into everything killed the ratings.

The vast majority of the population are sick of the woke, progressive, and virtue signaling movement.

There is no new programs on the rise that can challenge anymore. No more USC, Florida, Florida State, Nebraska, Texas etc. Many of the viewing public are losing interest in just a couple of top programs.
