Are these books even read or discussed in schools anymore?

The problem is that instead of teaching them communism is bad, they tell our kids "they did it wrong, but we'll do it right this time!"

They are still read but they are taught to look at the right and conservatives as the bad guys. It is all in how the data is presented.
Case in point Trump held large rallies, was an electric speaker, wanted to put Americans first, wanted to return pride in Americans etc. If you swap Trump for Hitler and Americans for Germans all the statements still apply. This is what they are being taught. They intentionally make all possible comparison and then leave you to assume if these things are true and the same then all the others must also be true.
Cows, dogs, and cats all have 4 legs, 2 ears, 2 eyes. Cows = dogs = cats. Cows live off grass. Natural logic jump to cats and dogs should also live off grass.

They probably use them as manuals instead of warnings as they were intended

We've discussed it here a lot but we haven't discussed Clockwork Orange. The central point of the book is 'free will.'
As long as man has free will he can choose between good and evil and some will choose evil. In the future when govt wants to put an end to this potential choice they will simply abolish free will. It's been happening in China with the merit/demerit list of life choices.
It's coming here.

My sons' schools did not assign them, but I did. My oldest read both in high school, and my youngest who will be entering high school in the fall will probably tackle both this summer. The youngest read Brave New World at my request earlier this school year.
So long as books are available, they can be read. If you're waiting for your school to assign it, even a great school, you're abdicating part of your job as a parent as far as I'm concerned.
Not a shot at you, OP, just making a general point.

Did you read all of the book? That's not how it ended at all. The pigs became everything they claimed to hate. Basically, a modern day Democrat.

No offense taken. My college freshman and high school freshman have both been assigned (and read) the books by their dad. I don't even trust their private school to give them all they need ????

No. Kids today are too busy being told they have to be gay and apologize for being white.

Private school. I'm thinking about buying a copy of both before they get burned by the Democrat Nazis.

I can remember reading both my sophomore year of high school in 1984. Of course the assumption back then was that communism was inherently evil. Different times for sure.

I read both Animal Farm and 1984 in 1984, in part while listening to Van Halen's 1984.

George Orwell was an outspoken socialist.

Doubt it. Oliver Twist and Wuthering Heights are considered racists.
Like the other poster said...they are probably more of a users manual than anything else.

Yet Obama rallies in 2008 were produced by Hollywood and had more of a Nuremburg feel than any Trump rally ever did.

Uhhh.... I think you’re confused. You’re talking about Eric Arthur Blair. He was a socialist.

Rid them of their inevitable "toxic masculinity" with a heavy dose of shame and you've created a clear path to submission.

Add Brave New World to those two.

If you had just followed that up with Pink Floyd/Animals, which is actually conceptual with a message. Don't get me wrong, I've seen & love Van Halen.
