I keep seeing this and am genuinely curious why. Have only ever stopped for lunch there...what makes it awful. My wife went to school there and had friends there and often suggests we could relocate there...I say hell no, but need some concrete reasons

Alexandria is great if you live west of MacArthur Drive and can afford to avoid most public schools. I grew up there and most of my family still lives in the area. Great little airport, dining options are improving, good outdoor recreation options. Low cost of living compared to some of the larger cities in the state.
My vote for worst: Winnsboro
