f he's successfully impeached, he will not be eligible to hold office again, thus prohibiting him from running in 2024.

He was successfully impeached prior to the 2020 election. What happened on that?

I trusted the GOP back then.

I wouldn't count on them now.

He wasn't indicted by the Senate, which is the goal.

If he's impeached by the House, then removed by the Senate, then one of the penalties imposed could be a prohibition on Trump ever holding public office again.

Oh no doubt, my point just being that there would still be that significant step before any such penalty could be levied.

Now we're on the same page. Removed by the Senate pursuant to "conviction" at the Senate trial.

This is the way I see it. Though a GOPer could vote not to convict and say the reason is that it serves no good, will only rile people up, and that Trump is done in a couple of days anyway. Totally reasonable stance and should be acceptable to most normal people.

Impeachment serves no purpose other than to be vindictive.

Because a man who didn't understand his words would cause his supporters to attack the Capitol could underestimate how actions on a world scale (like with Iran) could cost millions of lives. Or possibly start more internal unrest like several threads have suggested.

Rigging that election was a ton of work.
