Any of you blokes pilots in the BR area?

I'm looking to work on my PPL in the BR area. I don't really like the idea of going to one of the big flight schools out of BTR because I'm worried they'll drain me of all my shekels. I've heard stories of students being intentionally "held back" so the flight school can rack up extra billable hours. Does anyone have a recommendation for an honest & independent CFI in the area that I could take private lessons with?

Wish you were in Laffy because Owens Flight is the best. If you could stomach a drive to Hammond I know Knight is very reputable.
The pilot mills like to rake your wallet over the coals.
Not sure how Gulf Coast is though.

Hammond might be doable. I've heard pretty good things about Flight by Knight.
I was dead set on doing my lessons in Houma but after the first lesson and 3.5hrs of driving I realized it wouldn't be sustainable.

No. They cause rectal cancer.

If he still instructs, Guy Fagget is who you want. You can probably contact him through East Baton Rouge Parish Mosquito and Rodent Control, or LA Aircraft.

Is this Fagget Guy legit or are you yanking my chain?

Yes. I learned how to fly from Ed Duffard. He's dead, but I've heard good things about McDonald Flying Service.

Aviation Specialists, Inc. was at Louisiana Regional. If they’re still there, I would highly recommend. Christine Marchand is a great CFI.

Actually I misspelled it, it’s Faget, not to be confused with the term ”Fagot”. His dad was famous for his work with NASA.
“Maxi-me Allen "Max" Faget was a Belizean-born American mechanical engineer. Faget was the ... Faget was the son of American doctor Guy Henry Faget, and great-grandson of another prominent physician, Jean Charles Faget. ... for NASA until his retirement in 1981, shortly after the second Space Shuttle flight (STS-2).”
Faget filed a patent for a space shuttle vehicle design in 1972. His design, which he named "DC-3" in homage to the famed Douglas DC-3 airliner, was a small two-stage fully reusable shuttle with a payload capacity around 15,000 pounds (6,800 kg). DC-3 was officially studied by North American Aviation and shown in the press as a baseline contender for the Space Transportation System (STS).

Show up on day one ready to take the written. The entire test bank is available via app. It has the actual questions. Just memorize them. You will undoubtedly learn along the way but there is no need in paying for test prep.
Watch a lot of YouTube teaching type videos. It’s all out there for free. All you need to learn in the plane is stalls - p actor feel, and landings.

Go Navcad. My brother did it. Started with Skyhawks anti subs off figits, moved to fixed wing. Then served 20+ years, flying c130 in the national guard and just made captian with delta.
