When’s the last time you heard anything good about a pitbulls? The media talk about the other 10 million pitbulls with good owners and great discipline? You just made my point, thanks!

A breed of dog bred for fighting.

This is the biggest issue. There are two main problems with pitbulls and the above reality. The first is there are people who desire that trait and seek it out. Those people are trashy, and they are a huge problem. The second problem is the legitimate pet owners who want to do a good deed by adopting these dogs. Many do it on a whim without knowing the scope of their decision, nor the realities of raising a dog like that.

Bloodlines are everything in the pitbull breed. It is why you have such a huge swing in temperament from animal to animal. They did not breed those traits into those dogs in one or two generations, and those traits cannot be bred out of them in one or two generations.

You can almost always tell a pitbull that is from fighting dog stock. It is even easier when the dog is just a few generations removed. You cannot, however, judge the temperament of a pitbull, or any dog for that matter, at face value. Being that it takes even longer to breed out the negative temperament traits than the physical traits of a fighting dog, a person has to exercise extreme caution when making an adoption choice. If a person is not prepared, mentally and physically, to meet the requirements of owning a breed like that, they need to look at other breeds.

Many good intentioned dog owners have found themselves in terrible situations because they had no real idea what they were getting into. Much like most everything else, it boils down to a lack of education on the topic at hand.

Or are drug dealers and keep the breed for security and as a status symbol in the hood.

Damn I don’t have any kids, drugs or hood Cred. Maybe I need more pitbulls? Thanks

How do you know all this? I’m guessing you have a plug, and you frequent his trap house. His dog ever bit you while you picked up your stash?

Friend of mine son/DIL are pit owners and recently had their first child. They have already had an "issue" with the dog being jealous of the baby but are making excuses for it.... it's so sweet, etc. etc.
The grandparents are very concerned and have voiced their concern .. on deaf ears. Hopefully nothing ugly happens. I love dogs as much as anyone but just do not see the appeal of a pit.

These baws should come check out the most educated city in America, that gets the highest quality of life ratings, with a home prices they likely can't fathom, and all the pitbulls running around living the dream. It would help change their incredibly narrow minded view

To be fair, I've known several people who have had to get rid of dogs due to this very reason. None of those dogs were pitbulls.

Pit bulls are ONLY trashy because of trashy owners. That's it. It's as simple as that. It's amazing to me how some people don't understand that.

Well then riddle me this.

Why are trashy people attracted to pits?

Pit bulls are probably a bit more predisposed to aggressiveness than other breeds,

A pit bull bred to breed standard lacks human aggression. They do have animal aggression which requires heavy socializing.

But I am almost convinced that they just happen to be the breed of choice for trash a-hole (trasholes?) classes of people who are terrible dog owners, and that's the main reason their attacks are so prevalent.

Pretty much true. In countries like Germany you have strict protocols on breeding dogs. The dogs have to pass a temperant test in order to be bred. I'm not a big government guy but thats something we may need to look into.

The consequeneces of having idiots and outright trashy people from the hood and trailer parks unethically breeding pits is shown all the time. They are not breeding to the standard and often undesirable traits get passed around. To add gasoline to the fire, those people treat those dogs like a puppy mill and overproduce.

Take all that and put it in a breed just large enough to do real damage and you have a recipe for a disaster.

What I see with pit bulls worries me considering those same people will no doubt move on to other breeds and some of those breeds do have natural human aggression like my beloved Rottweilers, Dobermans and German Shepards.

And if anyone thinks the press won't be reporting attacks from Rottweilers, Dobermans and German Shepards with the same zeal they do pit bulls have not been paying attention to the last 50 years.

You still talking after your last failed post?

The only douchebags here are the majority posting ignorance because they’re one way. I guarantee I put y’all all in a room and you’re all dressed alike and talking about the same dumb shite. I’d rather a pitbull maul my face off.

you sound like a better fit for the amazing place that is Baton Rouge, Louisiana

we have this crazy process here where a professional in the form of a licensed veterinarian does a behavior test for a dog and based on the results of that test (yes, regardless of breed) the dog can be certified to be off leash in designated open spaces with other people and animals. good luck ever getting something like that down south in the non-liberal douchebag areas

If it wasn’t for my job, in trash New Orleans I would 100% move near Baton Rouge, grab some land and adopt about 10 more dogs. Thought about transferring to St George, but going to retire out here. Then it’s off to the beach house to rot away. Surrounded by pitbulls, good green & fine whiskey

That’s actually pretty amazing.

My girl doesn’t even know what a leash is. Sure she’s on a harness at bars, festivals, etc. But I have big property, and she doesn’t go in the street, pass my property line. I leave her out front sometimes to just sunbathe and squirrel watch. (Two of her favorite things) usually the neighbors come over, with their kids and play with her daily.

Thats a likely scenario.

So, a handful of pits are used by military or police. Probably because they can’t afford a Malinois or Shepherd.

Pits are shite dogs and you’ll never change my mind. Seen too much evidence.
