re: Trevor Lawrence may really struggle in NFL

We live in a clown world. Ohio State has 250+ rushing yards last night. Clemson had 44.
When the defense knows what’s coming and doesn’t have to respect the run when your team is behind, you have no margin for error as a quarterback.

I think there’s reason for concern

I don’t think he’ll be a draft bust but I do think he’s gonna be in for a rude awakening against quality opponents week in week out. The ACC is not the SEC that’s for damned sure...

Didn't realize LSU is an NFL team.

no shite. is LSU in the NFL now?

....OK

He is the type of guy I believe that would flourish learning behind a Rivers or Brady for a year or two before taking the mantle and making his own mark.
we all know who's getting that call next year in JAX

Ok its someone else’s fault, a great pro prospect has been manhandled by the last 2 teams with a pulse.
No college qb would’ve made a difference against that rush especially with that horrific play calling. Honestly I think he’s going to be a better nfl qb than college where they won’t waste too much of his game with keepers and so much lateral crap.
Dude threw some really nice deep outs and back shoulders last night despite getting no separation from his guys and the line getting destroyed.
He’s not a a sure thing but he’s easily worth 1.1 and he’ll likely grow into a great young like Allen or Herbert.

i don't think anyone is really arguing against this
what they're saying is he's much more Herbert than Luck

This is an argument for top talent to avoid teams that only play a few competitive games per year.
So stay away from Bama and Clemson, blue chips.

Exactly!

The same was said about Herbert
Scouts miss for sure, but they know wtf they're doing for the most part compared to message board warriors.
I personally don't "get the hype" either, but I also know that I'm don't know what all to look for when it comes to nfl prospects. Some people are saying what they think... which is fine, we're here for a discussion. But you have people that know for a fact that he won't be good at the next level. That's just dumb.

He’s definitely no Joe Burrow.
More of a Sam Darnold.
I wouldn’t say he’d ‘struggle’ in the NFL, but I’m not seeing many glimpses of greatness either.

Fields could be another Lamar Jackson

i don't think anyone is really saying he's not worth the gamble of #1 overall, though
it's more that he's not "generational" like he's been sold as for 2 years
even the people being really critical say he can be developed but going to a bad team/franchise likely will hurt him
Posted on 1/2/21 at 8:37 am to LongTime Tiger
He looked terrible against LSU and Ohio State. Seems the Alabama game may have been an outlier.
He has physical talent but I don't think he is a day one difference maker. He either needs to stay another year or sit a year once he gets to the NFL in my opinion.
Or maybe he just needs a really good qb coach to get him polished

a guy who goes outside the top 5 v. a "generational" prospect is a huge gap
and i purposefully used Herbert b/c he's a much better prospect, warts and all, than Allen, who was over-picked as a prospect
sometimes "tools" guys do live up to their tools. that's how you get a Josh Allen. most of the time the red flags never go away, though
perhaps the NFL has stolen from college so much that a good OC/offense can develop a tools guy, and they're the new path. we will see
