LSU a lucky team?

Ever since the day when West Virginia lost to Pitt, and it came to be that LSU would play in the NCG, I've heard, too numerous times to count, that LSU was very fortunate all year long, and was lucky to end up in the NCG. I take exception to that statement.
I seem to remember that I didn't feel like we were a fortunate team. I remember thinking during the Kentucky game how unlucky we were, and how everything seemed to fall Kentuckys way. From the phantom offensive pass interferance in that KY game to the consecutive penalties against Arky that negated a TD and then a first down.
Maybe we were lucky, but I personally feel like that team made their own luck. For as many plays that people can point to that seemed like they were lucky, I can point to the same number of plays that seemed unlucky.
I think the team just made the plays when they needed them.

Just like everytime LSU beat a good team...all of a sudden that team was overrated. ex. VT
Plus, everyone needs a little luck to get in the NC.

Every team that wins the NCG is a little lucky in some way at some point in the season.

Most championships require some amount of "luck". Things always fall into place and you look back and say "had we done this differently or had this happened then....". Rarely do you have a runaway champion in any sport. It usually takes a good team and some luck on your side.

Matter of fact, I've always said I'd prefer being lucky than good.

Are you inebreated currently? What plays did LSU make in the WV vs Pitt game? How did they make their own luck in that game or the Big 12 Championship? Bottomline is LSU held their own fate in their hands with a home game against an unranked opponent and they lost. They then had to rely on a chain of highly unlikely events to get back into the game. They took advantage of their luck once they were in the title game, but they were EXTREMELY lucky to get in that game.

There's a certain amount of luck in actually fielding a solid team each season. If luck is not on your side and the injury bug bites then say goodbye to your hopes and plans for the season.

the term lucky is a bullshite statement in general and lossing two triple overtime games isnt very "lucky". its someone's opinion and usually spoken by people who are losers that make excuses for other people's accomplishments

the teams that had a chance to control their own destiny because LSU lost, but blew it, were EXTREMELY lucky to have that chance in the first place...it was a goofy season, the best team ultimately won

You can say LSU was extremely lucky, Or you can say LSU was unlucky. Funny how people don't use the "unlucky" word when talking about Arky and UK. It's only when we win. Who would think? It's mostly OSU, USC, OU, WVU fans. So WVU and USC getting pummeled by bottom feeders is LSU's "luck" I am no bleary eyed homer, but I get sick of hearing this illogic.
So, according to that logic, LSU was unlucky to finish with 2 losses.
Of course I am being facetious, but it's the same logic.

The WV loss was a huge part. WV went into the Pitt game averaging 310 yards rushing and 42 points. They were expected by dam near everyone outside of Pitt's fan base to steam roll Pitt and they only score 9 points...that's dam lucky.
VT putting off the return trip and just happening to be lucky enough for it to be a year in which the CFB world was turned upside down...dam lucky.

I just found it funny the OG poster said LSU made their own luck when their fate was out of their hands. To make their own luck, they would've had to have had the last game that mattered or would've only needed a win to ensure a spot. When LSU won, everyone was reserved to kicking the shite out of Hawaii in the Sugar Bowl.

LSU did make alot of their own luck, especially against Auburn and Florida, but lets face it, we got a huge break because of 3 things that LSU had no control of....
1) VT going on to have an excellent season.
2) USC losing to Stanford.
3) WVU losing to Pitt
Without those, ESPECIALLY the WVU loss, all offseason we are talking about another Sugar Bowl domination against a team who had no business being in the same building with LSU. After that happened, what we had done to VT to start the season and the SEC title was the best arguement out of everyone that was competing for the #2 spot.
The WVU loss was huge, and unexpected. They were at home and something like 20+ point favorites.

Looking at it from a national perspective, we were very lucky to be in the N.O. last season. A 2 loss team playing for it all, yeah that was good. LSU healthy in 2007 was the best team in the land, and was fortunate to have teams lose allowing them to play for it all to show it. There have been worse teams, there have been better teams playing in the championship game, i am just glad we got the chance.

well then florida is lucky as well!! they got a blocked south carolina kick and they needed Ucla to take out USC for them to get in

I thought LSU was unlucky to have so many injuries to starters throughout the season (Flynn, Dorsey, Doucet, Alexander, etc...). Despite that, we were there at the end.
And we needed some luck to fall our way the final weekend, so it made up for all the injuries.

Every team has multiple injuries, they're part of the game.

no doubt. I just can't seem to remember so many injuries to such quality players in one season.
starting QB
starting WR
starting DT
other starting DT (who also was best DT in nation)
starting linebacker
starting safety
it seemed a bit excessive.

I posted this on a similar thread about a month ago....
Luck and the national championship:
'07 - 2 losses. yeah, we get it.
'06 - Florida needs about 50 teams to lose and then win a cry-a-thon between Urban and Carr.
'05 - Texas needed Bush to play stupid and pitch back on that late long run. fumble. new life.
'04 - U$C. I can't recall any lucky finishes offhand.
'03 - LSU (like any 1-loss MNC team) needed other folks to lose, like OU to KSU.
'02 - THE osu pulled so many close ones out of their arse I don't know where to begin.
'01 - Didn't Miami get to the title game when VTech totally choked by dropping a sure TD late in the season?
'00 - I recall A&M totally choking away the win to OU at Kyle Field. Late stupid pick or something?
'99 - don't recall. it was FSU, though, so I'm sure they pulled something out of anal orifice at some point.
'98 - Hogs' Clint Stoerner's fumble is deliciously chokeable. Or as Vols fans say "destiny". ok.
'97 - NU. Is this when they kicked the ball to an NU player against Mizzou?
'96 - Florida, again, needed 47 teams to lose in the last week to qualify for a MNC rematch against a team they lost to at the end of November. man, I hate florida.
'95 - NU. All I recall is an epic beatdown of Florida at the hands of the Great Tommy Frazier.
'94 - NU. dunno.
'93 - Florida State cried its way to a vaulting of Notre Dame (whom they'd just lost to) to get into the nat'l championship Orange Bowl match with NU. Needed ND to lose to Boston Freaking College.
'92 - Bama. See '02 Ohio State.
'91 - Split MNC. Nuff said.
'90 - Colorado. 5th down. Nuff said.
'89 - 1-loss Miami. Don't remember any specifics other than that.
