He has been saving money and hopes some Christmas donations puts him over the top. I would say his budget will be $1200 max. What kind of gaming machine can he make and what site has the best prices? Best suggestion on GPU and CPU obviously.

13 year old.

I'm sure someone else can do something better, and this is assuming he already has a monitor/TV, keyboard and mouse

Nice build but I think it depends on what he plays and if he has a monitor and KBM.

Esports games is likely 1080p and a lower end with high refresh monitor. Could lower the 3070 to 3060 ti

RPG could just be 1440p and only need 60-75fps

The other issue is that it's impossible to find 3070/3080s at non-marked up prices right now. Everyone is sold out because bots are snapping them up for eBay as fast as they come in stock.

For under $1,200, I think I'm sticking with a 3600.

ETA: Reconsidered the storage and downgraded the psu to semi-modular to squeeze in a 3070. If the kid is a low res high fps gamer, I would swap back down to a 3060ti and go 5600x for the cpu.

You don't have to activate windows. And if you have an old laptop lying around with a key on the bottom, it probably works. I activated my recent build with a Windows 7 OEM key off the bottom of a nearly decade-old laptop.

Very difficult, but not impossible. I not only got a 3070 FE from bestbuy, but I even got to use my birthday discount. Hard to beat for $450

If the kid is capable of building a computer, yeah, I think he's capable of navigating the rather straightforward process of creating a windows install bootable thumbdrive

Windows 10 costs absolutely nothing to install on a computer. You download the utility directly from Microsoft to create an installation drive. If you already have a key, you can use that. If not, you have two choices:

1. Live with fully functional Windows 10, except you can't change your background/theme and you have to look at a watermark.

or

2. Pay $25 for a license from a third party vendor.

But option 1 is perfectly viable, and super common in the DIY pc building space.

A noob who is, allegedly, about to build their own computer. There's more research that goes into figuring out which motherboard headers connect where than would go into figuring out a Windows 10 install.

This isn't a build guide, you whiney, aggressive tit. It's a parts list. If the kid wants build help, including installing Windows, I'm happy to give it. But that's not what was asked for here.

You said that we needed to include pricing for Windows 10. I very calmly explained why that wasn't necessary. You then decided to get more aggressive with each subsequent post. I don't know if you've just had a bad day, or whether you're this much of an insufferable douche, but piss off.

Oh, and that build I referenced a few posts up? That was my first.
