I just saw it for the first time. The most amazing thing, me and my brother had been shooting down through there, right where this hawk was. We playing something like a plinko game, with a sprite bottle down the hill through the woods, and you have to call your shot, and the tree you are going to bank off of. When I won with a genius almost inhuman shot, my brother waved the white flag and we started bull shitt'n and jokin, but it's just about the times for the squirrels, so I'm keepin my eye open, then something big started moving in the leaves, down the hill, about 30 yards away, I thought it was big groundhog or an armadillo, then I saw the wings, then the tail. It hits a big squirrel, comes up and takes an immediate right, then it flies kind of low until it's out of my sight.
Amazing to me that he buried himself like that, and that we were shooting all around him.
I know CSB, it was pretty cool though.

I saw one lay on his stomach on a round hay bale watching a hay field once. I always thought that was weird.

Last year while duck hunting in the marsh I saw a little hawk hit a black bird in mid air, latch onto it and then hover with its feet in the water keeping the black bird under water to drown it.
It was the damndest thing id ever seen.

Never saw that before but I did stab a squirrel that was perched right in the middle of a spread eagle. Does that count?

Was it behind the cooler at an old fashioned package store?

That’s a really cool story and the kind of experience that typically only outdoorsmen get to enjoy. I had something wild happen to me and a friend once in the Bouef River Wildlife Management area before it was state owned. Just a daylight we shot a duck and an eagle swooped down from out of no where and grabbed it. We both looked at each other with that WTF did I just see look. Laughed and spent the entire morning talking about it. A cherished outdoor memory still! We didn’t realize eagles we even in that area.

Watched two eagles chase a snow goose from my blind and when one of em got close the goose did a 360 and bolted. The lead eagle and the closer each attacked one another and did the claw spiral for about a 100 ft drop and let go. CSB.

We even got my old Mom out there to shoot a little bit. She shot the edge of my back deck first but she's in her 80s. After that, we moved her chair up a bit, and she did hit the bottle at 20 yards. Very proud of herself. Fun stuff.

There’s a hawk in the woods behind my house that doesn’t even bother with live prey.
He flies up and down our little country road and picks up any fresh roadkill squirrels.
I’ve seen him do it at least 20 times over the last couple of years.

2 weeks ago, while driving to my hunting club, I saw a fresh roadkill deer that was being swarmed by large birds.
I figured it was just buzzards, but realized they were bald eagles when I got close enough.
There was at least 8 of them. Not all of them had white heads, but they were all eagles...it was nuts.

On the Columbia River in Washington there are thousands of eagles...they are EVERYWHERE...and the LOVED duck decoys....I have had 4 - 5 diving into the spread trying to get those "ducks" to flush....its a blast to watch but when they are about you might as well pick 'em up and head to the hill cause ducks and geese ain't stupid...they ain't flying with eagles about unless something forces them to do so.
We had one doing this one morning and the man came up and checked plugs, licenses, boat stuff, DNA, blood type etc...they are very serious in Washington about making certain there ain't nothing they can fine you for....it makes them sick to their stomach to think they have left any money on the table...in the absence of a state income tax and all...any way when he finishes up, having found nothing to fleece us for, he casually mentions that the eagle diving in the decoys is actually a federal offense...harassing an endangered species...and tells us we are supposed to immediately leave the area until such time as the eagle leaves of his own accord. He made out like he was giving us a break....I have no idea if he couldve made the case or not but he didn't which leads me to beleive he could if he wanted.
Had a similar situation off Florida once with dolphins...apparently if they come up too close to your boat you have broken the law. Again, they did not write us for it but warned us they could....this was in the pass at Panama City during a blistering got kingfish bite...where whales are common this is absolutely a common occurence, people getting tickets for being too close to them when they surface close to them....very common off the coast of Washington from what I have heard....

I agree, its amazing...I have a similar story...
I was alon, fishing a small pond in a 1036 jon boat one afternoon and there was a squirrel sitting on a tree leaning over the water, eating an acorn. All of a sudden a HUGE bass broke water and knocked the squirrel arse over tea kettle into the lake....of course Mr. squirrel lights out for the hill and just as it is getting close there is a hole the size of a toilet bowl in the water and the squirrel disappears...that damn bass ate that squirrel. I have heard of them eating rats and baby ducks but it was amazing....and got even more amazing a few minutes later when that bass again broke water and gently placed that damned acorn back on that tree.......
